Boston based professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer, Essy Sosa, has been honing her skills in ballroom dance for the past ten years. Essy started dancing at the age of 8 in Yucatan, Mexico, studying ballet and folkloric dance. Back in her hometown, she was interested in expanding her knowledge about exercise and injury prevention and achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Health Science from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. When she wasn’t coaching as a personal trainer, performing as a burlesque artist, or competing in bodybuilding, she enjoyed working in movies like Black Mass, Ted 2, Joy, Patriots Day, November Criminals, and Central Intelligence. Starting as a ballet and contemporary dancer, her passion for the art of dance grew to include ballroom dancing. Essy is excited to be welcomed back at the Fred Astaire Belmont studio, the same studio where she first began her ballroom journey back in 2010. Since then she has studied and competed in amateur International latin then swiftly moved up the ranks back to professional American Rhythm and Smooth. Most of all she enjoys teaching new students of all ages, levels and experiences. With a special love for First Dance wedding choreography, Essy’s forever philosophy is that “life is just better when you dance.”
