It\u2019s just a bunch of steps.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>Well, that\u2019s not really true.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, dance is a sequential order of steps to the rhythm of the music.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s so much more.<\/p>\n<p>Just learning the steps does not make you a good ballroom dancer. You have to learn every part of the dance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/Portrait-lovely-funny-dancer-couple-000077038439_Medium.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2216\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/Portrait-lovely-funny-dancer-couple-000077038439_Medium-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait-lovely-funny-dancer-couple-000077038439_Medium\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>The emotion. The drama. The act of it. The presentation.<\/p>\n<p>You need to learn the connection between you and your partner.<\/p>\n<p>The lead and the follow.<\/p>\n<p>The feel of the dance.<\/p>\n<p>All of this together makes for a pretty incredible experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/Tango-passion-000021221350_Medium.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2217\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2217\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/Tango-passion-000021221350_Medium-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"Tango-passion-000021221350_Medium\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a>We get frustrated when students say, \u201cTeach me the next steps; I should be at a higher level already!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t want to insult anyone, but if they don\u2019t really have the feel of the dance yet, they can\u2019t truly move on to the next phase of what they\u2019re learning.<\/p>\n<p>They need to take the rhythm and understanding inside their skin. They have to embody the expression of the dance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/HiRes.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2219\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2016\/04\/HiRes-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"singing hearts\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>One partner needs to hold the frame for the other partner to be enveloped in. There needs to be a communication between dance partners, a fluid flow of connection.<\/p>\n<p>You have to be able to close your eyes and feel the music in your fingertips and just go in ways that you <strong>know.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dancing is more than just learning steps. I always tell people, \u201cYou can learn steps. You can go online, watch YouTube, buy a book, but that&#8217;s not going to make you a dancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The connection is everything.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dance is more than sequential steps.
