Will ballroom dance be on your list of New Year\u2019s Resolutions?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why it should be!<\/p>\n<p>The number one New Year\u2019s Resolution of all time is \u201cGet In Shape.\u201d Ballroom is a GREAT way to get in shape while also shaping up your brain and spirit. More than one-third of the population aims to get in shape every new year, but the problem is, they often don\u2019t achieve that goal because it\u2019s so hard to build new habits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2017\/11\/iStock-628209300-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4505 alignleft\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dancing is low-impact aerobic activity that boosts your metabolism. Thirty minutes of dancing can burn 200-400 calories, similar to running or cycling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fredastaire.com\/bloomfield-hills\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2017\/11\/iStock-628209300.jpg\"><\/a>With our Fred Astaire system of teaching dance, you\u2019ll get in shape in no time, and fall in love with a new hobby. Who knows, maybe this time next year, you\u2019ll be swirling a sequined dress at a competition!<\/p>\n<p>The number three Resolution is to \u201cStop Procrastinating.\u201d Ok, so sign up for a ballroom dance package and then you\u2019ve committed to at least the first few lessons. You can\u2019t put it off any longer \u2013 you have to attend what you\u2019ve already signed up for! And once you realize how much you love dancing, you\u2019ll keep coming back. Bye bye, procrastination!<\/p>\n<p>The number four Resolution is \u201cImprove Your Concentration and Mental Skills.\u201d Well, ballroom is perfect for this, too! A 2016 study in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fnhum.2017.00305\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience<\/a> revealed that dancing can help prevent memory loss. Dance improves cognitive domains (spatial memory), and when you dance with a partner, it produces even stronger mental health benefits and decreases loneliness.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth most popular Resolution is to \u201cMeet New People.\u201d This is a no-brainer! With our group dance lessons and dance parties many days of the week, dancing is a perfect and safe way to meet new people. Check off this resolution as accomplished!<\/p>\n<p>Numbers six and seven in the New Year Resolutions list are often \u201cBecome More Active\u201d and \u201cBecome More Confident and Take Some Chances.\u201d Both apply to ballroom dancing. You\u2019ll be active, of course, as you sashay across the parquet, and if you\u2019re more of an introvert, you\u2019ll learn to come out of your shell bit by bit as you meet new people in dance lessons and at parties, and you\u2019ll feel more comfortable saying hello.<\/p>\n<p>Make a New Year\u2019s Resolution to dance in 2018.
