We\u2019ve been avidly recruiting dance instructors<\/a> over the past several years, driven by a goal of opening 10 new Fred Astaire Dance Studio locations in Michigan in the next five years. Interestingly, I find we bump up against prevailing myths about what it\u2019s like to be a dance instructor – so I thought it was high time to dispel some of those myths and replace them with truths.<\/p>\n

#1 Myth: It\u2019s Only a Part-Time Job<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sorry, but no! This is a full-time job that captures your energy and interest from day one. All of our teachers<\/a> are full-time and able to make good livings with benefits. We pay well, we take care of our team, and as a result, they stay with us and build a satisfying, well-compensated career.<\/p>\n

#2 Myth: You Can\u2019t Make Much Money Teaching Dance<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wrong again! Many people think teaching ballroom dance is a side hustle that they can do in the evening, after their regular 9-to-5 job. At FADS Michigan, most of our instructors earn between $50,000 and $100,000 per year. Rest assured: you can make good money teaching dance.<\/p>\n

#3 Myth: There\u2019s No Future<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some people think being a dance instructor isn\u2019t a real career. Not true. There is so much potential for growth and expansion in this position! Think about it – you start by teaching dance. You build a following, attract some favorite students who request lessons with you. You partner with students<\/a> to perform at dance competitions, traveling the country, or even the world. One day, you decide to own your own studio<\/a>, or you become a renowned dance coach or competition judge. This industry, which has grown steadily for decades, has long-term potential in a variety of directions for people who love what they\u2019re doing and simply want more.<\/p>\n

#4 Myth: Only Dance Champions Become Dance Teachers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Never competed before? Don\u2019t consider yourself a great athlete? Don\u2019t worry! Great dance instructors simply need to bring a love for teaching, an appreciation for dance and good communication skills to be a great teacher.<\/p>\n

#5 Myth: There\u2019s No Demand for Dance Teachers<\/strong><\/p>\n

This one makes me laugh. Are you kidding? I can\u2019t find enough great dance instructors, and I am eager to employ them! Every Fred Astaire Dance Studio in the United States is hungry for dance teachers, and we project a huge continued demand, especially here in Michigan as we open 10 more studios<\/a>. I can\u2019t open studios without teachers. We need you!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
