La Rumba, \u00e8 uno dei balli che si trovano nei balli sociali e nelle competizioni internazionali. \u00c8 il pi\u00f9 lento dei cinque balli latini internazionali competitivi: il Paso Doble, il Samba, il Cha Cha e il Jive sono gli altri. La Rumba \u00e8 nata da un ritmo e una danza cubani chiamati Bolero-Son; lo stile internazionale \u00e8 nato dagli studi di ballo a Cuba nel periodo pre-rivoluzionario che \u00e8 stato poi reso popolare dai discendenti degli schiavi africani di Cuba. Il suo ritmo allettante invase per la prima volta gli Stati Uniti all\u2019inizio degli anni \u201930 ed \u00e8 rimasto uno dei balli sociali pi\u00f9 popolari. Of the three styles of Rumba that were introduced to the United States, the Bolero-Rumba, the Son-Rumba and the Guaracha-Rumba, only the Bolero-Rumba (shortened to Bolero) and the Son-Rumba (shortened to Rumba) have survived the test of time. The Guaracha-Rumba quickly faded in popularity when the more exciting Mambo was introduced to Americans in the late 1940s. The Rumba is danced in place as the steps are quite compact. Although the Rumba is not danced with the same body contact that is used in smooth-style dances, there may be times when partnership looks and feels more attractive when a closer contact is felt. A smooth and subtle movement of the hips is characteristic of the Rumba.<\/p>
