Bachata is a dance style that originated in the Dominican Republic in the early 20th century, blending Indigenous, African, and European musical traditions. Born in the vibrant rural neighborhoods of the Caribbean, Bachata initially carried the reputation of a \u201ccountry people\u2019s art.\u201d During the Trujillo dictatorship (1930\u20131961), it was heavily censored and nearly faded into obscurity. However, once the regime ended, Bachata experienced a remarkable revival, blossoming into a beloved genre. Its deeply emotional themes of heartbreak, romance, and longing have earned it a comparison to the Blues in the United States. Over time, Bachata has spread far beyond its Dominican roots, becoming a global phenomenon enjoyed in Latin America, Europe, and beyond.<\/span><\/p>

The basic steps consist of three movements followed by a tap, which includes a characteristic hip motion on the fourth beat.
