Maria Shaheen was born in Coral Springs, Florida, and began training in classical ballet at the age of three. Since then, Maria has been fully immersed in the world of dance.
Maria continued on her dance journey at the Dance Academy of Boca Raton where she trained in ballet, jazz, flamenco, and modern dance. During her time there, she participated in various performance opportunities such as the Choreographer’s Ball, dancing at Downtown Disney, and being invited with her studio as guest performers on a Royal Caribbean Cruise.
At the age of fifteen, Maria discovered her passion for latin ballroom dancing and began dancing at Dance Town Miami, a renowned competitive dance studio owned by teachers and choreographers Manny and Lory Castro. While at Dance Town, she continued her ballet and jazz training while also becoming advanced in contemporary and latin ballroom through the instruction of teachers such as D’angelo Castro, Ivan Mulyavka, and Vadym Pidhoreyskyy. Maria has also trained with Loretta Kriksciukaityte, Eugene Katsevman, Sasaha Issengolts, and ten time world latin champions Riccardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoruychenko.
Notable moments throughout Maria’s dance career include being a part of the Super Bowl Fifty-Four halftime show with the Dance Town Miami dancers and making it to the semi-finals of America’s Got Talent season fifteen with the Dance Town Family.
In December of 2022, Maria graduated magna cum laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s Degree in political science and a minor in anthropology. While not directly related to dance, Maria enjoyed her time in college as it provided tools and information that allow her to better connect with and interpret the people and world around her.
Maria is very excited to be a part of the Fred Astaire Dance Studios and looks forward to passing on her knowledge and working with the dedicated students of the Fred Astaire Delray family.
