Zahara Diego-Moffitt – Dance Instructor

Zahara joined Fred Astaire Dutchess in 2014. She ballroom dances because she strives to create equity and representation for black ballroom dancers in the Ballroom Dance Industry at the large scale. The field is mostly dominated by Eastern Europeans so Zahara dances to inspire more African Americans, specifically black women, to ballroom dance and compete. Zahara loves “light bulb lessons” with her students when topics finally click and make sense! Her favorite dance is the Mambo; she loves it because as soon as she hears the music and Latin instruments it creates a fire inside of her body. Mambo also transports Zahara back to her childhood, dancing the Punta, Salsa and Bachata with her family.
