The great thing about dance is that you can turn this lovely art into a serious sport if you want to.
Many of our top students and our outstanding professionals have that passion to match their skills against others, and they love it when their friends come out to cheer them on.
So please join us for the City Lights Competition on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20 at City Place Marriott in West Palm Beach (1001 Okeechobee Blvd.) Your Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Fort Lauderdale is in it to win it!
The City Lights Championships is a regional competition. There will be pro/am dancing (professionals dancing with students/amateurs) on Friday night and Saturday. The professional competition will be Saturday night along with a show, general dancing, and awards.
Friday night’s action is from 5-10 p.m. There are AM and PM sessions on Saturday.
Competitions are a regular part of the vast majority of Fred Astaire Dance Studios yearly calendars. At National or Regional Competitions, students meet, mingle and compete with other student dancers in order to feel accomplished and confident as dancers. A variety of other events are also offered throughout the year, such as showcases, spotlights, charitable events, themed dance parties, and more. Participating in these events gives every student and student/teacher team the opportunity to progress more rapidly in their dance endeavors and have fun along the way.
Come out and support our dancers. Meet folks from other Fred Astaire studios in the area, and dance a little bit yourself. Contact your instructor for more information about the fabulous City Lights Competition!
If you cannot join us in West Palm Beach, please do come out to the studio on Thursday night, May 18, for our Awesome 80s party. Come dressed up in your favorite ‘80s attire. Dig out that old velour jogging suit and Spandex pants! Let’s see that preppy fashion turn, with a sweater tied around your neck. Remember the Valley Girl look? It was tubular!
We’re giving prizes for the best dressed, so do it up right. The party starts at 7:30 p.m., right after our 6:30 Beginners Class. It’s going to be stoked. Rad. Totally!
