Ballroom dance lessons can be enjoyed both socially and competitively, and are often known as \u201cpartnership dancing\u201d because they involve dancing with another person. This type of dance dates back to the 16th century and evolved from elegant dances performed in royal courts throughout Europe. Many dance styles were also influenced by traditional folk dances from that time period. The International Style first became popular in England during the early 1800s before expanding worldwide throughout the 19th century, largely through the music of Josef and Johann Strauss. International Style is divided into two primary categories: Standard (commonly called \u201cBallroom\u201d) and Latin. The Differences Between International & American Styles\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

International Style\u00a0 is often viewed as the traditional and classic form of ballroom. In International Standard, dance partners generally remain in a continuous closed dance position, meaning they stay connected face-to-face throughout the dance. American Smooth shares similarities with International Standard but allows dancers to separate into open positions during routines. During early ballroom dance lessons, International Style tends to be more structured and technically disciplined, while American Style often begins as a more social form of dancing before progressing into competitive training.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

American Style also allows for more freedom through \u201cExhibition\u201d choreography and solo movements within routines. While both styles require technical precision and advanced skill development, American Style generally offers greater flexibility with movement patterns and dance figures. International Style follows stricter guidelines with fewer variations permitted. In ballroom dance competitions, costume design also differs between the two styles. Since International dancers remain in closed position, gowns often include floating fabric details that would not function as well in American Style routines that feature both open and closed positions.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
