Dance From Home!

Online Private Lessons – With Live, Local Professionals

Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Greensboro is offering online private lessons via the Zoom Conference Application during the Coronavirus Shelter-in-Place Order via the North Carolina government.  We are pleased to offer this service to benefit our students during this historical event.

Online Private Lessons are taught via the Zoom Conference Application, and can be scheduled at your convenience!

IT’S FUNDAMENTAL

Our instructors are utilizing this unique lesson format to improve students’ technique.  Students working on their own, in their own comfort zones, are able to work on muscle control, balance, footwork, armstyle, and step patterns.  Working by oneself allows instructors to see more easily when a student falters, and to emphasize how technique remains constant whether a partner is present or not.  Working from home allows dancers to engage with their own muscle awareness, making the muscle memory more compliant when faced with the pressures of performance.  Lessons at home with your instructor also help to keep your skills sharp, so that we can all come out of this situation with improved dance technique and ready to hit the ballroom floor with *Running Steps.*

IT’S FUNCTIONAL

Our staff has had a great deal of introspection into their own personal dance education, recalling hours of practice time in their own living rooms and kitchens as they grew, to perfect their own techniques in these same manners, using the same constraints common to us all: small, inadequate spaces, multiple distractions, and difficult flooring.  Every one of our instructors has worked in such environments and recognizes the intrinsic compromises that must be made, but also knows that those hours were what allowed them to feel comfortable in all of the various performance environments faced by competitive dancers.

IT’S FUN FOR EVERYONE

Our staff is having a great deal of fun utilizing common household items to help students get a feel for their new techniques.  We’ve seen the use of brooms, books, and stuffed bears, among others.

See what our students have said after trying out this new lesson format!

““I HAD AN ON-LINE LESSON THIS AFTERNOON WITH SASHA AND I LOVED IT.  I HAD DOUBTED THAT AN ON-LINE LESSON COULD BE PRODUCTIVE, BUT, IMMEDIATELY, I COULD TELL I WAS WRONG.  IT WAS WONDERFUL WORKING SLOWLY, AND I LEARNED MANY USEFUL DETAILS.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE TRY AN ON-LINE LESSON.  FUN.” -Susan Nickell (Student)

“JO ANN AND I ARE HAVING REALLY PRODUCTIVE LESSONS WITH ALYSSA AND GULYA AND I AM FINDING INDIVIDUAL LESSONS WITH GULYA TO BE REALLY HELPFUL FOR MY TECHNIQUE.  I URGE YOU TO GIVE IT A TRY IF YOU HAVEN’T!” -Sam Tucker (Student)

“[MY DAUGHTER CECE] HAD HER FIRST TWO ZOOM LESSONS WITH OLEG GORIANSKYI AND CATHERINE CAMERON…AND IT WENT REALLY WELL!  THEY WORKED ON TECHNIQUE, CHOREOGRAPHY FOR THEIR SHOWCASE ROUTINE, AND BEST OF ALL, SHE WAS ABLE TO ‘CONNECT’ WITH SOME OF HER DANCE FAMILY. …THIS IS A COMPLETELY DOABLE FORMAT!” -Amanda Sumrall, Parent of a Teenage Student
