On top of that The Fred Astaire Dance Studios proudly keep his name and his legacy going with over 150 locations across the country. All of the studios bearing his name teach ballroom dancing with a style that the dancer himself would be proud of. We’ve put together a list of our favorite dance scenes featuring Fred Astaire. We hope you enjoy and feel free to let us know if we left out your favorite

#10 Steppin’ Out with My Baby from “Easter Parade”. Released in 1948, Judy Garland starred with Fred Astaire in this record-breaking film. Easter Parade was the highest grossing musical of the year as well as the most successful film for both Garland and Astaire’s career. We’re a Couple of Swells gets an honorable mention here, as another great scene that just didn’t make the cut. (We could only choose 10!)
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g742gWRA8E[/embedyt]

#9 Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers take to the dance floor, but on roller skates? I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to tap dance on roller skates but I would imagine this took a whole lot of practice. But WOW what a great show! Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off (or better known as You Say Tomato, I say Tomato) was from the film “Shall We Dance”.
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ3fjQa5Hls[/embedyt]

#8 Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly in The Babbitt and the Bromide from “Ziegfeld Follies” what can I say, A-DORABLE! They were so perfectly in-sync the whole routine is truly genius. The film was released in 1946 making Fred Astaire 47 years old at the time. (That’s pretty impressive if you ask me!)
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMKbGRCbsaw[/embedyt]

#7 Holy Moly what a looker Rita Hayworth is as she danced with Fred Astaire for 1941’s “You’ll Never Get Rich”. This routine has been described as “The most elegant rumba ever captured on film” by Gustavo Perez Firmat. It looks a little different than the Rumba we teach today. But the Latin dance theme is certainly noticed.
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dASVYhUCYMM[/embedyt]

#6 Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse make an unforgettable couple in the Dem Bones Club scene from Bandwagon. Even the Smooth Criminal himself, Michael Jackson has noted that scene was the inspiration for his dancing and a fond childhood memory.
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuJxYmJlEHY[/embedyt]

What was really impressive about Fred Astaire was his commitment to his craft. He spent countless hours practicing to get every move just right. He was quoted saying “If it doesn’t look easy, it is that we haven’t tried hard enough yet.” Take a look at this rare side-by-side to get an idea of the precision he demanded of himself.
[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfyXPONE7Ws[/embedyt]

Stay tuned to see which scene made the number 1 spot!
