Dance Derby Was A Success!

The results are in and we couldn’t be more proud of our Houston-Memorial dance studio! This past weekend we held our annual regional competition, Dance Derby, at the Westin in Austin, TX.  Friday, June 9th, was our Team match and Professional competition.

A few of our very own instructors competed;  Julia West and Joshua Bradford,  placed 3rd in Open Rhythm and 4th place in Closed Rhythm, and Yolanda Ribota and Philip Gutierrez placed 2nd in Closed and Open Smooth. Great work everyone!

It doesn’t stop there, quite a few of our students competed and let’s just say we are bursting with pride!

  • 1st place in open rhythm B Division Scholarship
  • 1st place in open rhythm B Division single dance

  • 2nd place in closed rhythm A Division Scholarship

Saturday night we held our Dance Derby Dinner at the Westin, which included a fabulous performance by professionals Hayk Balasanyan and Emilia Poghosyan that was enjoyed by so many of our wonderful students.

Competitions are a regular part of Cypress dance studio’s yearly calendar.  At Competitions, students meet, mingle and compete with other student dancers in order to feel accomplished and confident as dancers. Participating in these events gives every student and student/teacher team the opportunity to progress more rapidly in their dance endeavors and have fun along the way.
