It’s been quite a September so far and we, at Fred Astaire Houston-Memorial Dance Studio, have plans to pick up the pace. And we need your help.
On Friday, Sept. 8, we’re holding a Harvey Relief Party at our studio. Our friends and neighbors still need a lot of assistance getting their lives back on track, and we’re determined to help. We will be accepting donations of goods that will be taken to different shelters around Houston.
Back at our place, we have a couple of top professionals coming in as visiting coaches. We’ll enjoy the company of Sergei Shapoval on Thursday, Sept. 14, and Galina Dektina on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Sergei Shapoval began dancing at the age of 8 in the Ukraine and represented his country at the 1993 International Festival of Culture in France, where Ukraine took first place. Sergei has appeared on Ukrainian regional and national TV, and formerly competed as an amateur dancer in International Latin and Standard in Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland and Russia.

We’ll wrap up September with a really great Film Character Party on Thursday, Sept. 28. And we mean party, party, party! Lots of social dancing, plus drinks and food! We encourage you to dress as your favorite film character, though you can certainly come as you are. Costumes and dress-up make it so much more fun.
