Hey FADS Houston-Memorial friends, fans, and family! The month of February is always an exciting one with Valentine’s Day on the way, so we want to keep you in the loop with all the exciting events we’re putting on. If any of these strike your fancy, make sure to show up and dance the night away with us!
We kick off the month with ‘Rounds Day’ on February 8th beginning at 10 a.m. This day is a marathon of dancing! Students will dance the routines being practiced in their current programs, as many times as possible, with as many partners as possible. This is a great opportunity for building muscle memory and becoming better leads and follows. If you like to sweat while you dance and you’re itching to get in some more practice, this event is perfect for you!
This next one is a biggie, it’s our regional Texas Grand Championships! This event is a weekend extravaganza of dancing, education, and merrymaking for the Fred Astaire Texas community. Thursday the 13th kicks off with two, afternoon Masterclass sessions and later in the evening, we will showcase a smorgasbord of student performances that display the versatile talents of Fred Astair Memorial students.
On Friday the 14th the weekend kicks into overdrive with the Nightclub Carnival de Brazil Championship Divisions at 7:30. At 9:30 all professionals attending will compete, so this is an event you don’t want to miss!
The weekend is capped off by Saturday nights festivities including a banquet dinner, awards ceremony, general dancing, and a professional show put on my WDSF Showcase Vice Champions, Marts Smolko and Tina Bazykina.
Separate from the Texas Grand Championships is ‘A Day’ (Audition Day) on February 16th. This exciting event is themed after Oceans 11! Students can play all sorts of casino games and place bets while socializing and meeting with choreographers for ideas and collaboration on their show routines for Rhythm of the Night in July. This event provides students a great opportunity to find choreographers they really like, and encourages new partnerships and creativity. Plus, the student who gets the most chips by the end of the day wins a FREE show routine in addition to the routine they sign up for during the event.
