Months of hard work and preparation culminated this past weekend for our student ballroom dancers. Halina Kolano, Rika Yamaguchi & Harold Pfitzner all did an amazing job at the NY\/NJ DanceSport Challenge.<\/p>\n

\"NY\/NJ<\/p>\n

Dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studios across New York and New Jersey gathered at the Westin Hotel in Jersey City to present their skills on the competion dance floor. \u00a0The competition was chock-full of dancing!\u00a0More than\u00a04500 entries in\u00a0various dance events took place, including\u00a0Standard, \u00a0American Smooth & Rhythm, International Latin, Showcases, and Professional Divisions. The event ran from Friday, June 9th through Saturday, June 10th. \u00a0The weekend completed Saturday evening with a very special banquet event. Participants enjoyed delicious dinner, professional dance show & LOTS of fun with a giant crowd of instructors, students & dance friends.<\/p>\n

NY\/NJ DanceSport Challenge 2017<\/h3>\n

We are very proud of the accomplishments of our student dancers! \u00a0Harold Pfitzner has been dancing for years with his first dance teacher (and our studio friend) Christina Penatello. \u00a0While Christina is out on Maternity leave he has\u00a0recently taken up his weekly instruction with our studio’s Natalie Honkonen. \u00a0Harold will be turning 95 this year and we think he looks sharp as ever on the dance floor! \u00a0Check out our photo gallery to see pictures of Harold. \u00a0He’s the gentleman\u00a0grinning ear-to-ear as he\u00a0confidently demonstrates dances such as Tango, Swing & more! \u00a0Go Harold!<\/p>\n

Halina Kolano also did an amazing job on the dance floor at the NY\/NJ DanceSport Challenge. \u00a0This is Halina’s third competition of the year. \u00a0She is gearing up to perform on a grander scale this July at the Fred Astaire World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada! \u00a0Halina smiled & gracefully danced through several rounds of Smooth dances such as Waltz, Tango & Foxtrot. \u00a0Her efforts on the dance floor landed her in 2nd place in the Closed Smooth Championship! \u00a0Nice work, Halina!<\/p>\n

It was two exciting days of dancing for our student competitor, Rika Yamaguchi. Rika\u00a0danced in both the Smooth & Rhythm divisions of the NY\/NJ DanceSport Challenge. \u00a0She also danced not one, but two show routines in this competition! \u00a0Rika placed 4th in her Closed Smooth Championship and won 1st place in both of her shows. \u00a0 If you missed Rika’s award-winning performance\u00a0skills at this event, don’t worry! Simply plan to join us this September as she’ll be performing once again on stage — this time in\u00a0NJ’s Showcase of Stars! \u00a0Keep up the great work, Rika!<\/span><\/p>\n
