You\u2019ve decided to go for it! You\u2019re going to get back on the dance floor. You want to get off to a good start so you\u2019re going to brush up on your skills at a local dance instruction center. Here are 7 ways to make sure that you get the most out of the experience!<\/p>\n

  1. Do some research. Make your first visit on the Internet. See if the center you are considering has the classes you want. Check out their online reviews. Choose one that is well established and well liked. The Internet is a great place to find out about a business both by visiting their site and by reading reviews written by real clients.<\/li>\n
  2. Don\u2019t worry about a partner. You don\u2019t need one. The center will take care of it for you. So, if you have someone who wants to join in your dance journey, bring them along. If you don\u2019t, don\u2019t let it stop you.<\/li>\n
  3. And, while you\u2019re not worrying \u2013 don\u2019t worry about your size. Dancers come in every shape \u2013 including out-of-shape. Dance may help you shed some pounds, but extra pounds \u2013 no matter how many \u2013 shouldn\u2019t stop you!<\/li>\n
  4. You might want to start with a private lesson. Many dance centers have a reduced introductory rate and one-on-one is a great way to get started. It will give you a great idea on how the staff works with its clients.<\/li>\n
  5. Make sure your instructor looks at the positive \u2013 not the negative. You want a good, professional instructor who will work with what you can do and respects your limits. It\u2019s OK to push those limits as time goes on, but gently. You want an instructor who will work within both your comfort level and your physical ability.<\/li>\n
  6. Relax! Don\u2019t be a perfectionist. Be proud that you\u2019re trying something new! Delight in what you\u2019re learning. If you miss a step \u2013 or two or more \u2013 so has everyone else in the room. Give yourself a break and enjoy the experience. Celebrate yourself \u2013 without any criticism. You are undoubtedly your own worst critic so let it go.<\/li>\n
  7. Make the effort to make new friends. You\u2019re going to be meeting people from different places, different cultures and of different ages. Reach out! When you change partners make sure you have a friendly greeting ready. While people may not want to talk while they\u2019re concentrating on learning a new step, don\u2019t be afraid to strike up a conversation before or after your lesson!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
