What are your instructors favorite dances?

On Monday, half of our Eagan Fred Astaire Dance Studio staff shared their favorite ballroom dances. Today, Sam and Joanna have that difficult task.

From Sam

If I had to choose, I’d pick Viennese Waltz and Tango. I love Viennese Waltz because of the speed and the elegance. It’s the dance that left me in awe whenever I saw it performed. The speed can be ridiculous, and it’s fun to try and keep up while making it look as elegant as possible.

With Tango, I love it because it challenges me. I have a recurring back injury from high school and I have to be super careful that I’m doing my technique correctly or I could aggravate that old injury.

From Joanna

Mine changes. I do love Samba because it’s still challenging to get all the pieces moving together at the right time in the right way. It combines so many elements – The Pulse, the Pendulum, progression, rotation…

But my GO TO is still ChaCha. I like that it’s fast but still requires finesse. I like all the latin motion, the possibilities for rhythm changes and hitting accents. Styling is key. Arm styling, a head snap, a little extra goes a long way.
