What is your reason for wanting to learn to dance?

In late 2011, I took my first ballroom lesson at Fred Astaire Dance Studio. I was what you think of if you had to generalize what sort of person takes ballroom lessons. I had prior dance experience. I watched dance shows and movies religiously. I went out dancing without knowing what I was doing. I was “that girl,” “the dancer.”

Most people who come into our studio aren’t dancers and haven’t had any prior dance experience, especially in ballroom. So what made them step through our doors?

LeAnn and her husband have been taking lessons since August 2012. She says, “It all started with a Kindle; I gave Ed a Kindle for Christmas. After registering it, he started to receive Groupon notices. He captured a picture of the Fred Astaire Groupon and emailed it to me, asking if I was interested. I responded by asking, ‘who are you and what have you done with my husband?’  My true response was a resounding, YES!”

Bill came in to learn to dance for the father-daughter dance for his daughter’s wedding. Another student signed up for lessons as a gift for his fiancée. She had mentioned a few times that she wanted to try different types of formal dances.  Because he likes to try and surprise her, he thought it would be a great gift.
