What is the hardest part about ballroom dance?<\/p>\n

For me? It was walking through the door for that first lesson.<\/p>\n

I had danced before \u2013 taken lessons for jazz and tap, competed with my high school\u2019s dance team, dabbled in swing and salsa \u2013 but I had never taken a lesson in ballroom dance. A friend knew I was interested in learning ballroom; my obsession with So You Think You Can Dance didn\u2019t help. So he talked me into taking a lesson.<\/p>\n

At first, I was excited. I pictured myself dancing like Jenna Johnson or Witney Carson (both SYTYCD alums that went on to be pros on Dancing with the Stars). But then I got nervous. Who was I kidding? I was going to make a fool of myself. I almost canceled my lesson.<\/p>\n

But I didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

And I had a blast!<\/p>\n

I laughed, was introduced to a bunch of different dances, and got out of my head, away from all those thoughts telling me I looked ridiculous and that I couldn\u2019t do this. Because I could do this! And so can anyone who walks through our doors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
