The Intricate Art of Ballroom Beauty

To those who have never seen it, ballroom dancing might not necessarily spell out “glamour.” However, as anyone who has ever witnessed a ballroom competition knows, it actually shouts “GLAM” from the rooftops.

Imagine this. Your first heat of the day is at 9 A.M. Not too bad, right? There’s just one thing. You’ll also be spending over an hour getting your hair done alone this morning. Don’t believe us? Ask this hairdo.

That’s right. This is how ever woman’s head looks at any given ballroom competition. So half a can of hairspray, perhaps a hundred bobby pins, and a hairpiece later, your hair is done for the competition.

But what about makeup? Ballroom makeup, as you might’ve guessed from the hair, is another ordeal in itself. With luck, hair and makeup will happen at the same time. However, you won’t be the only one competing! Competitors have learned to plan accordingly for this process, and so should you if you plan to compete. Ask your instructor for the best stylist- they definitely know one!

“But wait, do I really need to go to these lengths?” In short- yes. When a dancer is being judged in competition, they’re being judged not only on their technical skills, but also on their overall presentation. If your dress doesn’t fit well, they’ll know it. If your hair is sending bobby pins flying every time you spin, they’ll see it.

The good news is that there is no reason to skip this process, because it is one of the least expensive parts of the process of competing. Not to mention it is one of the most fun parts of the day! You’ll channel your inner dance Goddess the second you see your completed competition look. Here are a few examples of Ballroom Beauties to DANCE for!
