All New Group Classes at Fred Astaire<\/h1>\n

Why take group classes??<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We are so excited to announce our roster of all new group classes at Fred Astaire, but first, imagine your life of learning up until today. \u00a0You studied history in class, you went to college, took classes, you wanted to learn to sing, you joined the chorus. \u00a0Most of your learning has been in the group class format. \u00a0At the\u00a0Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Upper Montclair<\/a>, our entire system of teaching is based on the group dance class. \u00a0Let’s see how much you know!<\/span>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0There are just as many reasons to take group classes as there are reasons as to why individuals don’t want to take group ballroom dance classes.\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Why Not?<\/b><\/span>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0You’ve probably heard it around the studio water-cooler, and even discussed it with your friends, “I don’t take group classes because…….(I want the private attention), (they don’t have a group class my level), (I can’t learn in a group setting), (I don’t want to change partners). \u00a0I could write an essay on each category, but I’m only going to address the partner switch today. \u00a0<\/span>

Why you don’t want to change partners in a ballroom group class, and why you should.<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0You might be shy, or have decided that you came to the studio to spend more time with your partner, or feel like you can’t learn as fast as the rest of the class. You may not want others to see you struggle. \u00a0The fact is, everyone has difficulty at some point in the learning process. \u00a0Rotating parters can actually give you CONFIDENCE when you discover that Mr. Smith has trouble with timing, and you don’t, or that Ms. Cooper has trouble with directional movement and you don’t. \u00a0You’ll develop empathy for sure!<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Experience shows the couples who ROTATE partners in group classes tend to learn faster, have less difficulty dancing together, and certainly argue less! Rotating partners allows you to feel what the step should feel like with a wider-range of skill levels. \u00a0You might be the best in the class, but if you can’t follow the worst student in a group, you’ve got work to do! \u00a0Changing partners can allow you to see that you may be leading or following incorrectly. \u00a0You may discover that you aren’t a strong enough leader, or that you’re too strong. \u00a0You may discover that in fact, you’ve been leading your husband in every dance, and have finally decided to stop. \u00a0(You’re a closet BACKLEADER)<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I’ve always noticed that when couples who came together dance together, they chit-chat about the step or (gasp!) try to TEACH each other (tsk tsk!), or correct one another. \u00a0 When you rotate away from your partner and dance with the 4, 5 or 6 other people in the class, you’ll come back to your partner having improved and you’ll BOTH BE HAPPIER!<\/span>
\nOK, SO WHY SHOULD I TAKE GROUP CLASSES AT MY BALLROOM STUDIO?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
