Jose Decamps, born on the island of Dominican Republic, started dancing in 1991, found a partner in 1993 while working at Fred Astaire Studios East Side New York. Won the US Fred Astaire Rhythm Championship in 1995, went on to win “Couple of the Year” in 1997. He then changed dance styles and went to Europe to study with various world Latin
\nchampions. Jose was featured in a National Geographic program called \u201cThe Amazing Human Machine\u201d (The Reproductive System).
\nJose was also featured as a lead dancer in “Burn the floor” the US tour, the Dr. Pepper Latin series commercials, the Debelah Morgan “Dance with me” music video and the Vanessa Williams music video titled “Close to you”. Jose has won over 500 regional championships in both the American and the Latin divisions. He is also a musician since the age of 13. His latest work as a consultant has come by way of invitation to lecture and teach Cuban Music history and Dance as a guest artist at the Long Island High School of Performing Arts sponsored by the one and only Billy Joel.
\nJose with his wife Joanna Decamps formed their partnership in 2007. Jose and Joanna are not only Dance Champions but are also members of The Imperial Society of Teacher of Dance and the National Dance Council of America. As Professional competitors they are the former
\n4-time US and 3-time World Rhythm Champions. They have also won the 2007 U.S. Mambo Championships. Moreover, they have appeared on PBS’ “America’s Ballroom Challenge\u201d where they capture the World Show dance title with their signature number \u201c Dance at the Gym\u201d from West Side Story. Jose and Joanna were also featured as guest artists on ABC’s “Dancing with the stars” dancing with Def Leppard to their new single \u2018 Nine Lives\u201d. In 2015 they performed as “Dance Legends” in the show \u201c Dance Legends\u201d in NYC, as a comeback show after a 5 year retirement. Since their retirement they have dedicated themselves to teaching, training, coaching and judging the next generation of American and European Amateurs and Professional dancers.
