We did it! Our April 24 fundraiser for Mar Martinez and Clifton Sepulveda was a huge success.
Mar and Clifton are our professional dance couple, and they will be going to the prestigious Blackpool Festival competition in England to represent the United States and Fred Astaire Dance Studio of West Palm Beach.
Between their GoFundMe campaign and our special event, nearly $4,000 was raised to defray their costs. We’re very proud of them and grateful to all the people who came out to support them. The lip-synch contest was tremendous fun and our guests, through a variety of raffles and silent auctions and the help of our corporate associates, went home with dance lessons, restaurant certificates, jewelry, movie tickets, comedy club tickets and memories of an energetic and engaging evening of partying and dancing.
The Blackpool Festival held in May, known as the British Open Championships, is the largest of the five yearly festivals hosted there and is celebrating its 90th anniversary. It takes place from May 21-29 at the world famous Empress Ballroom, Winter Gardens. Last year there were 60 countries represented, with a total of 2,950 entries in the 12 events. Here’s the website: http://www.blackpooldancefestival.com/index.php?active_menu=17. You’ll understand why it is known as the ‘The World’s First and Foremost Festival of Dancing.’
Thanks to everyone who helped out and good luck to Mar and Clifton on their trip across the pond!
