What to Expect at Your First Lesson
After an introductory lesson — sign up for a $40 intro lesson! — you can join our Beginner Dance Program where you’ll start to learn basic ballroom dance patterns, foot position, directional movements, and more.
Your new skills will grow even faster (and you’ll have a lot of fun) with access to unlimited group classes (including Merengue lessons!) and social dancing parties, where you can practice your moves to a variety of musical styles alongside the rest of your studio dance family.
Our knowledgable instructors are welcoming and passionate about teaching dancers of all levels. They strive to make each class a fun and positive experience for every student.
Get Started In Three Easy Steps!
Step 1
As a beginner, you’ll learn the basic marching steps and rhythm of the Merengue. Your instructor will help you feel familiar with the basic rhythm and show you how to move with the music.
Step 2
Practicing with a partner, you’ll get the hang of leading and following.
Step 3
Before you know it, you’ll be stepping across the floor to the music and having a great time!

What is the Merengue?
The Merengue is an upbeat, beginner-friendly Latin dance style that features quick, staccato rhythms, hip movements and a simple limping step that makes it easy to master. It is the national dance and an important part of national identity in the Dominican Republic, where November 26 is celebrated as National Merengue Day! In the Dominican Republic, the Merengue is introduced to dancers from a young age and it is common to see the dance performed at festivals and celebrations. While Merengue has its roots in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, is is popular across Latin America and has inspired dance variations unique to nearby countries.
The basic step is a simple side to side movement, repeated on an eight-count. The Merengue’s characteristic hip movement is achieved by dancers bending their knees slightly and shifting their weight, with their hip moving opposite from the stepping foot.
