Ballroom Dance Lesson FAQs

We realize you may have questions about getting started with ballroom dance lessons. To help you feel at ease before signing up for your first lesson, our team gathered answers to the frequently asked questions we hear most often in the dance studio. Please feel free to browse these FAQs, and contact us if there’s anything further we can share that will help you feel comfortable, confident, and prepared.

At Fred Astaire Boise, we know the hardest step is the first one you take when you walk through our door. Once you do, you’ll discover a warm, welcoming and 100% non-judgmental environment that will keep you coming back for more.

Do I need to bring a partner?

Absolutely not — there’s a spot for everyone on our dance floor and we welcome both singles and couples. If you come in as one of our single students, your dance instructor will be your partner for private lessons and our group classes and practice sessions will provide you with plenty of opportunities to meet — and dance with — other dance students with the same interests and goals.

Our studio is a great place to meet new people, make friends and be part of a fun, social community!

When is the studio open?

We’re open from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Be sure to check our in-studio calendar for upcoming open houses, group dance classes, social dance parties, community events, master coaching opportunities and much more.

How do I get started?

Call us at (208) 514-0440 or fill out our intro lesson form and a member of our team will be in touch to learn more about your dance goals and help you get started.

Want to take a peek at the studio before signing up for a class? Grab a friend and swing in for our monthly Downtown Boise First Thursday events! You’ll get a chance to meet our instructors, see the studio, dance with new people and experience the fun Fred Astaire Boise atmosphere for yourself!

What types of dance styles do you teach?

We offer instruction for all partnership dances — from the elegant waltz, tango, and cha-cha, to lively salsa, country western, swing, and club dancing. We can help you with your wedding first dance, father-daughter dance, all of your social dance needs — basically, any dance style done with a partner.

How should I dress for my lesson?

No need to dress up! Coming straight from work? Prefer to dress casually? Either is fine. Just wear something comfortable which allows you to move easily. You’ll also want to select comfortable shoes. We suggest leather-soled shoes for gentlemen and a shoe with a back for ladies (similar to what you might wear to go out dancing). Athletic shoes do not work well on the ballroom floor because they can stick to the surface, which will make it difficult to move your feet.

Is it difficult to learn to dance?

Not at all! Our dance instructors are all highly-qualified and welcoming professionals who participate in ongoing dance training throughout their careers. They are all passionate about introducing others to the joy of dance and can help you grow in your skills and confidence regardless of your experience level. They will work with you to help you choose the dance style that best suits your interests and goals. We promise, the learning is fun — and you will be on your way to confident social dancing after your very first dance lesson.

We invite you to take that first step and experience the joy of ballroom dance at Fred Astaire Boise. We’re confident you’ll love it.

See you on the dance floor!
