Survive ‘The Big Dance’ with Dance

It’s March, which means college basketball is in full swing. This year was even more exciting here in Idaho with Boise State making it to The Big Dance.

While it may not be the kind of dance we are usually thinking about here at Fred Astaire Boise, we’re always happy to root for the home team. And whether you plan to watch every game or you think March Madness is a psychological condition, dance can help get you through the month gracefully.

Here are three ways dancing can help you survive – and thrive! – the bounty of basketball this month. And for all those Boise State fans disappointed that the Broncos didn’t get a win, you can still keep dancing with us!

Stress Management

Your favorite team blew a 10-point lead and lost to a school you’ve never heard of before. You just tore up your bracket after a 15-seed beat the team you picked to win it all. And if you hear Dick Vitale gush about a Prime-Time Player for the 500th time, you’re going to break down.

Dance can give you an outlet for all that pent-up emotion. Come to the Fred Astaire Boise studio, stop thinking about the missed free throw that cost your team a game and feel yourself glide across the floor focused on the next step, the next move until your mind is clear.

Before you know it, you’re having fun and forgot you didn’t cover the spread!

Get Your Body Moving

This is the perfect time of year to develop a loving relationship with your couch and TV, when it’s possible to spend hours sitting on one, looking at the other. Throw in a steady diet of pizza, nachos and beer – all March Madness staples – and you have a recipe for physical disaster.

Dance can help with that, too. Pry the remote from your hands, brush the crumbs off and join us for a Salsa that doesn’t require chips, maybe a brisk Tango to get the blood back into the legs. A few trips around the dance floor can help you work off the calories you put in – and get ready for the next week’s indulgences!

Get Social

Eventually, the tournament is going to end. Your living room will be quieter. The sports bar will be a little emptier. You’ll have to think of new things to talk about with the people at work since there are no more brackets to compare.

If you miss all that social activity, dance can help. Come to Fred Astaire Boise for one of our open houses and social dances. Join us for a group class with your buddies. Remind your significant other that you still remember them by gifting them a private lesson. Ballroom dance is one of the most social activities around, so ditch the couch, throw the pizza boxes away and join us!
