What to Expect at Your First Quickstep Lesson
After an introductory lesson at our Boise dance studio — sign up for a $40 intro lesson! — you can join our Beginner Dance Program where you’ll start to learn basic ballroom dance patterns, foot positions, directional movements, and more.
Your new skills will grow even faster (and you’ll have a lot of fun) with access to unlimited group classes (including Quickstep lessons!) and social dancing parties, where you can practice your moves to a variety of musical styles alongside the rest of your studio dance family.
Our knowledgable instructors are welcoming and passionate about teaching dancers of all levels. They strive to make each class a fun and positive experience for every student.
Get Started In Three Easy Steps!
Step 1
As a beginner, you’ll be introduced to the basic movements of the Quickstep. Your instructor will help you feel familiar with the basic steps and show you how to move with the music.
Step 2
Practicing with a partner, you’ll get the hang of leading and following.
Step 3
Before you know it, you’ll be floating across the dance floor and having a great time!

What Is the Quickstep?
The Quickstep has its roots in New York and England, where it originated from the Foxtrot, Charleston, and other popular dances of the 1920s. It was originally known as the “Quick Time Fox Trot” – a tongue twister that was later simplified to Quickstep.
The Quickstep originated in dance halls where fast, lively, ragtime-era jazz music was all the rage. Because of this, the dance is known for its brisk pace and light-hearted style and is danced to music with a 4/4 beat.
The Quickstep is defined by a lot of movement and as you grow in your dance skills, you can introduce all kinds of hops, runs, and turns into your dance patterns.
The Quickstep is classic, lively, elegant, fun to dance and fun to watch – making it a staple of ballroom dance shows like Dancing with the Stars.
