Local Fred Astaire Dance Studio Competes in National Dance Championships

DOYLESTOWN, PA – During the first week of November 2021, local ballroom dance studio, Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Doylestown traveled to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Fred Astaire National Dance Championships (NDC).

NDC is one of the largest Fred Astaire dance competitions in the country with over 100 participating Fred Astaire Dance Studios and more than 250 competitors.

Nine of Fred Astaire Doylestown’s students participated in the event with their instructors: Diane Clemons, Samantha Ferris, Debbie Powell, LeeAnn Reed, Grace Rosanova, Denise Sandy, Derek and Christine Sheaffer, and Nancy Stone. Their hard work and dedication paid off earning them well-deserved, amazing results.

Out of 24 couples starting from the quarter finals, Samantha Ferris earned herself first place in the A Level Open Rhythm Championship and third place in the B Level Open Rhythm Championship. She placed second in the B Level Silver Smooth Championship and first in the 9-Dance Championship division. In both the Open Smooth Championship and Open Smooth Scholarship, she placed fourth.

Returning after a 3-year hiatus from competing, Grace Rosanova competes in her first national competition, earning second place in the Bronze Smooth Championship, and third in the Bronze Smooth Scholarship.

Denise Sandy graced the competition floor claiming first place in the C Level Bronze Smooth Scholarship division.

Debbie Powell showed her skills earning herself second place in the Senior Bronze Rhythm Scholarship division, and fourth place in the Senior Bronze Rhythm Championship Division.

Nancy Stone earned herself many impressive placements. In the International Latin divisions, she placed both first and second. In the International Standard divisions, she placed second and third. In both the C Level Bronze Rhythm Championship and C Level Bronze Scholarship, Nancy took first place. In the C Level Bronze Smooth Scholarship division, she placed second. In the C Level Bronze Smooth Championship Division, she placed fourth.

Diane Clemons also earned many titles. In International Latin, Diane placed third and in International Standard, she placed fourth. In the Senior Silver Smooth Championship, she placed third and in the Senior Silver Smooth Scholarship, she placed fifth. In the Senior Open Smooth division, she placed sixth.

LeeAnn Reed’s hard work paid off as she earned impressive placements as well. She placed third in the following divisions: Bronze International Standard and both Bronze C Level Smooth Championships. She earned second place in both Bronze International Latin and the Bronze Senior Smooth Scholarship.

Amateur couple Derek and Christine Sheaffer danced beautifully together, earning them many high placements. They placed first in the following divisions: Amateur Rhythm Championship, Amateur Smooth Championship, and Amateur Smooth Scholarship. They placed second in the following divisions: Amateur Rhythm Scholarship, Amateur Rhythm B Level Championship, Amateur Rhythm B Level Scholarship, B Level Smooth Championship, and B Level Smooth Scholarship.

Derek Sheaffer also received third place in the Men’s Bronze Smooth Championship with one of Doylestown’s professional instructors, Irina Savushkina.

Other Doylestown professionals include Roman Doroshenko, Val Golubev, and Rita Golubeva. Together, Val and Rita placed third in both the Professional Showdance Division and Professional Rhythm Championship. For the second year in a row, Roman proudly won Top Overall Teacher.

Igori Bogatiriov and Yuliya Jung, owners of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Doylestown, were overwhelmed with joy saying, “Absolutely great results, there are just no words. Congratulations!” They thanked all the studio’s amazing students along with the coaches and Fred Astaire Dance Studios® personnel who helped make these achievements possible.
