Local Fred Astaire Dance Studio Competes in World Championships

Doylestown, PA – During the last week of July 2022, local ballroom dance studio, Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Doylestown traveled to “Sin City” Las Vegas, Nevada to participate in the Fred Astaire World Championships during the company’s 75th year of dancing.

Seven of Fred Astaire Doylestown’s students participated in this world event for the first time with their instructors: Diane Clemons, Samantha Ferris, Debra Lajeunesse, Debbie Powell, LeeAnn Reed, Grace Rosanova, and Avrida Shvartsman. Each student earned themselves impressive results in one of the most difficult competitions, taking home many World Champion and World Vice Champion titles. Their hard work and dedication paid off as the Doylestown studio was granted first place, earning the Top Studio Award out of 84 studios.

Diane Clemons, a frequent competitor with her instructor Roman, earned many notable placements. She now holds the title of World Champion (first place) in the following divisions: Bronze SR International Latin Championship, Bronze SR International Latin Scholarship, Closed Rhythm Silver SR Scholarship. She earned the title of World Vice Champion (second place) in the Bronze SR International Standard Scholarship Division.

Diane’s other placements include: third place in the Open Rhythm Silver SR Scholarship, Closed Rhythm Silver SR Championship and American Smooth Silver SR Closed Championship. She placed fourth in the Open Rhythm Silver SR Championship and the American 9-Dance Championship C Division. She placed sixth in the American Smooth Silver SR Closed Scholarship, the Open Smooth Championship SR Division from Quarter Finals, and the Open Smooth Scholarship SR Division from Semi Finals.

Samantha Ferris, an avid competitor with her instructor Roman, claimed the title of Top Female Silver Student. She now holds the title of World Champion (first place) in the following divisions: Bronze International Standard, Bronze A International Latin Championship, Bronze B International Latin Championship, Closed Rhythm Silver A Championship, Closed Rhythm Silver B Championship, and American Smooth Silver A Closed Championship.

She holds the title of World Vice Champion (second place) in the Bronze B International Standard Championship, the American Smooth Silver B Closed Championship, and the Open Smooth Championship B Division from Quarter Finals.

Samantha’s other placements include: third place in the Open Rhythm B Championship, and the Open Smooth Championship A Division from Finals. She placed fourth in the Open Rhythm A Championship and the American 9-Dance Championship B Division.

Debra Lajeunesse, another returning competitor with her instructor Val, earned many high-ranking titles. She now holds the title of World Champion (first place) in the following divisions: Bronze C International Standard Championship, Bronze C International Standard Scholarship, Bronze C Closed Rhythm Scholarship, Bronze C Closed American Smooth Championship, and Bronze C Closed American Smooth Scholarship. She holds the title of World Vice Champion (second place) in the Bronze C Closed American Rhythm Championship Division.

Debra’s other placements include: third place in the American 9-Dance Championship C Division, fifth place in the Open Rhythm Scholarship C Division from Semi Finals and the Open Smooth Championship C Division, also from Semi Finals. She placed sixth in the following divisions: Bronze B International Latin Championship from Semi Finals, Open Rhythm C Championship, Open Smooth Scholarship C Division from Semi Finals.

Debbie Powell, with her instructor Val, brought home impressive placements. She holds the title of World Champion (first place) in the Bronze SR Closed Rhythm Scholarship. She holds the title of World Vice Champion (second place) in the following divisions: American Rhythm Bronze SR Closed Championship, and the American Smooth Bronze SR Closed Scholarship. She also placed third in the American Smooth Bronze SR Closed Championship.

 

 

 

LeeAnn Reed, with her instructor Roman, also brought home impressive placements. She holds the title of World Vice Champion, earning second place in the Bronze SR International Standard Championship Division. Her other placements include: sixth place in the American Smooth Bronze SR Closed Championship and seventh in both Bronze SR Rhythm Closed Scholarship from Finals, and American Smooth Bronze SR Closed Scholarship.

 

 

 

Grace Rosanova, in her second national competition and first world competition with her instructor Roman, returned to the floor, also earning high-ranking results. She holds the title of World Champion, earning first place in both American Smooth Bronze A Closed Championship and American Smooth Bronze A Closed Scholarship Divisions. She holds the title of World Vice Champion, earning second place in the Bronze A Closed Rhythm Scholarship Division and third place in the American Rhythm Bronze A Closed Championship.

 

 

Avrida Shvartsman, in her very first national and world competition with her instructor Roman, became a World Semi-Finalist in two divisions: American Rhythm Bronze C Closed Championship and Bronze C Closed Rhythm Scholarship. She holds the title of World Vice Champion in the American Smooth Bronze C Closed Championship. She placed sixth in the American Smooth Bronze C Closed Scholarship.

 

 

 

 

Doylestown professionals Roman Doroshenko and Val Golubev earned significant recognition titles as well. Roman claimed first place for the following Top Teacher Awards: Top Overall Teacher, Top Smooth Teacher, Top Rhythm Teacher, Top International Standard Teacher, and Top International Latin Teacher. Val followed Roman, taking second place for Top Overall Teacher, Top Smooth Teacher, and Top Rhythm Teacher.

Igori Bogatiriov and Yuliya Jung, owners of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Doylestown, were honored to receive first place for Top Studio. It was an overwhelming achievement, and they could not be happier. They thanked all the studio’s amazing students along with the coaches and Fred Astaire Dance Studios® personnel who helped make this success possible.
