David Norton – Dance Instructor

David has one of the longest successful careers in the Latin dance community for the DMV.  He entered the world of dance when he discovered East Cost Swing in 1996. A few years later he transitioned into teaching and in 2003, at the age of 27, decided to train as a Ballroom and Latin Dance Instructor under the Divda Syllabus and in Salsa under Jim Johnson the co-founder of Salsa Fuego Dance Company. He has been teaching and dancing professionally for over 20 years. He has since used his extensive knowledge and experience to launch Suburban Salsa Productions, an effort to bring all of his initiatives under one umbrella. SSP’s mission is to organize new social dance events, to bring Latin dance closer to home for more people, to spread Latin dance around the suburbs of NOVA, as well as to train and develop new instructors in proper social-style Latin dance technique,. 
 
Achievements: 
  • 1st Bachata team in DC: Organized and Co-Directed “DC Bachata Project” with Hector Chavez (2011); debut at DC Bachata Congress
  • 1st and only Progressive Salsa program, teaching the on1 style. Utilizing his multifaceted experience, developed his own Latin dance progressive course syllabus which pays special attention to the novice dancer to take them from first steps to the stage. The program currently has 5 levels from beginner – performance team.
  • 1st event organizer in the DMV area to host Multi room dance socials which include the first Salsa events to feature:
  • 1st all Bachata room  “Bachata Cave” (2008) at his Salsaholics social in Virginia
  • 1st all Zouk room “Zouk Underground” (2011) at Salsa-Licious social in Maryland
  • 1st all Kizomba Room at B2D Studio Social and Flava Fridays (2013).
Other Career Highlights:
  • Hired as a professional consultant for Netflix’s “House of Cards” and taught and choreographed Kevin Spacey and Jane Atkinson’s “Chapter 1” Viennese Waltz scene. He was also instrumental in casting and choreographing the dance extras for the above mentioned scene.
  • Director of the “Capital Salseros” performance team
  • Taught and performed multiple years at DCBX, Capital Congress and Interfusion Festival. 
  • 1st guest instructor at “For the Love of Bachata” in Pittsburg, Pa and was the featured instructor at their first year anniversary celebration.
  • Won 1st place at Clarendon Grill’s Annual Salsa Open Competition in 2013 with Sara Elisa and 2nd place in 2015 with Zuzana Čelpá.
