No Partner? Brand New? A Little Nervous?
You Still Belong Here.

Do I Need a Partner?
No. You can come on your own or with a dance partner. Singles and couples are both welcome.
What If I'm a Beginner?
You are not expected to already know the steps. Group classes are one of the places newer students build familiarity, timing, and comfort through repetition. The calendar even includes beginner-level classes like Beginning Rhythm and Beginning Smooth.
Will I Slow the Class Down?
A good class is designed to teach. The point is not to “keep up like an expert.” The point is to learn in a guided environment where things feel more natural over time.
How Group Dance Classes Work
Group classes are instructor-led and designed to help you build repetition, timing, technique, and comfort in a shared learning environment.

Instructor-Led Guidance
One instructor leads the topic and keeps the class moving clearly.

Repetition and Variety
You get repeated exposure to movement patterns, timing, and musical feel.

Confidence Through Shared Learning
Learning with others often makes dancing feel more normal and less intimidating.
Private Lessons Personalize. Group Classes Reinforce. Practice Makes It Real.
The strongest dance progress usually comes from understanding what each format does best.
01
Private Lessons
Best for personalized coaching, correction, & moving at your own pace.
02
Group Classes
Best for repetition, shared learning, confidence-building, and variety.
03
Practice
Best for applying what you’re learning in a more social, low-pressure setting.

Real People. Real Progress. Real Fun.
The best proof is how students feel after they start: more comfortable, more confident, and excited to keep going.
The entire team at Fred Astaire changes that, and quickly. My fiancé and I are a little over a half dozen lessons in with these folks, and we chat often about this journey going far past why we came in the first place, which is for our wedding.
Kind, fun, patient, helpful, I can keep going. This is how I describe Fred Astaire Dance Studio. A space to progress in your dance skills while smiling or laughing the majority of your moments there. Give them a chance and you would not be disappointed.
Shout out to our personal instructor, Nick! Every lesson we get better and it’s because of his coaching skills, and great humor!
What truly sets this recently opened Solana Beach studio apart is the quality of instruction, overseen by Jonathan, a former World and US Ballroom Dance champion who appeared in Dancing With the Stars for seven seasons. Lessons are thoughtfully structured and tailored to the student’s goals—whether you’re preparing for a wedding, looking to improve your technique, want to dance competitively, or simply want to enjoy the social side of dancing. The instructors break down complex steps in a way that makes them easy to understand, and their enthusiasm is contagious.
The studio itself is beautiful and well-maintained, with a lively, positive energy that makes every visit something to look forward to. Group classes and practice parties create a wonderful sense of community. After just a few lessons, you’ll be amazed at how much progress you can make. The confidence you gain on the dance floor carries over into everyday life as well.
I highly recommend this studio to anyone interested in ballroom dancing—whether you’re a beginner, an experienced dancer looking to refine your skills, or a competitive dancer looking to up your game. It’s a fantastic place to learn, grow, and have a great time doing it.
From day one, the environment has been welcoming, upbeat, and incredibly professional. The instructors are not only talented dancers, but excellent teachers—they break everything down in a way that makes it easy to learn while still challenging you to improve.
What I appreciate most is how personalized the experience is. They meet you at your level, help you progress at the right pace, and genuinely care about your development. Whether you’re dancing for fun or preparing for competitions, you feel supported every step of the way.
