Incredible studio from the moment you walk in you can feel the love for dance! I can’t say enough good things about this studio. The studio itself is great—clean, welcoming, and full of people who clearly know what they’re doing (couldn’t be me). Would absolutely recommend if you want a great workout, good laughs, and to finally figure out what your feet are supposed to be doing. A bonus is you get a really cool community of likeminded amateur dancers! Thank you to this wonderful team of professionals for their patience and encouragement along my dance journey. What started as a few lessons with my family for my brothers wedding has progressed in ways I would’ve never imagined. I came back to Fred Astaire of Upper Montclair after 20 years because I so missed dancing. It is a great stress reliever, improve balance and exercise that is fun and you never get bored of it. I wish I had come back sooner. Tim and Kaitlin (current owners) run a great studio. Feels like a family when you enter and they treat you like part of the family. From the moment you walk in the door everyone is so welcoming. Esther at the front desk and instructors Artem, Ioanna and Anastasiya all say hello when they see you. My lessons alternate between instructors Doraldy and Pavel (aka Pasha) and both are wonderful and very talented. Having two who get to know you and how you learn and your level allows for a lot of growth in dancing skills but also flexibility in scheduling. (This was new compared to when I danced years ago when you had one person assigned to you.) They focus on improving my skills but in such a positive way that I don’t get discouraged. And importantly, we laugh a lot. I would definitely recommend this studio, Pavel and Doraldy and learning ballroom dancing. It will change your life, your attitude and your physical state.

My partner and I took our first free lesson with Anastasiya we won at a fair. We fell in love with how welcoming and friendly the staff at studio felt. Everyone has great energy and have a mutual interest in making you succeed. From there we signed up for additional lessons and have noticed much improvement not only with our basic steps but also the way we flow together. 10/10 recommend our teacher and this studio!

I absolutely love this place. I started dancing with Doraldy in June with the intention of learning more salsa, but have learned way more dances than expected! From the beginning, everyone was very welcoming and kind. Doraldy, Artem, and Yeddah are also amazing instructors! They have helped me improve in such a short amount of time due to their attention to detail, passion for teaching, and just fun personalities. I’ve also attended two of the themed parties and they’re soooo fun! It really does feel like one huge dance family that truly wants you to improve everyday.
Our journey all started when my husband surprised me with dance lessons back in October 2025. After our very first lesson we both instantly decided to join. Dancing has been so much fun, it’s like we get to do a date night every week and it’s brought our connection even closer. Our teachers Ioanna and Yeddah are amazing. We have fun and learn a lot with each lesson and they encourage us in many ways to be the best we can be. The parties are so much fun and everyone at Fred Astaire are kind and have become our friends. I want to take this opportunity to thank Fred Astaire of Upper Montclair for giving me a new hobby that I love and the confidence I’ve always wanted.
Yeddah was our dance instructor helping us to complete our father/daughter dance. She was patient, accommodated our dance skills, and made each lesson fun! This was such a great experience for my father and I! The studio was also very clean and a comfortable place to learn. We felt lots of love and really enjoyed ourselves during our 6 session. My father and I highly recommend the studio & Yeddah! We will be back!
We signed up for the 2 private/1 group class. Yeddah was phenomenal. Great experience, flexible times, highly recommend! Even in just a short time, we feel very prepared for our first dance! We’re hoping to come back for a date night in the future!
My husband and I chose Fred Astaire in Cedar Grove for our wedding dance lessons and they have exceeded our expectations since day one. We had the pleasure of working mainly with Anastasiya and she is such a ray of sunshine to work with! We couldn't be happier with our experience! We were lucky enough to have some lessons after our wedding as well and they have always been the highlight of our week. They are one amazing family over at Fred Astaire in Cedar Grove and they all take you in as part of their family. We are truly so lucky to have had them part of our wedding journey. I started a while ago for some salsa/bachata lessons and I’m having a lot more fun than expected. The staff is always so nice and helpful, if you think about taking lessons either solo or with your spouse is the best date night! This place rocks!
I started losing a bunch of weight, when I started dancing here and social dancing (third photo is from 2022 for reference). But, that’s not even why I come here at all. The atmosphere, good vibes, and community building is unmatched. They say it’s important for your mental health to have a third space other than work and home. I’m glad my third space is at Fred Astaire - Upper Montclair.
I’ve been at Fred Astaire for almost 4 years and have loved every moment! It feels like a little family and my teachers challenge and support me in ways that help me grow both as a dancer and a person. I’ve met so many friends here and I can’t say enough amazing things about the studio. It’s definitely worth a try!
The best and funniest part of our wedding planning were our dance lessons. We not only learned some great dance moves but we also made new friends. My fiance was definitely surprised at how much he enjoyed the lessons and how into it he got. I can’t recommend this studio enough, everyone was so nice, welcoming, and patient. Even when we felt clueless about what we were doing they always made us feel comfortable and we always had fun. Whether you are getting married or just want a fun date night or even just an activity to do on your own you can’t go wrong coming here. 💃🏻
The studio is amazing. I have been there over 2 years now and I learned and grown so much. They have really helped me achieve goals both in dance but life as well. They are huge for confidence as I have done things I would never expected. Example performing on stage and in public dance competitions . All their professionals are amazing and work with you one on one. One other part I have loved is they bring in expert coaches to get you to the next level.

This is a wonderfully run dance studio! Tim and Kaitlin have assembled a staff of warm, engaging, and helpful professional dancers. I bought an introductory, two-session package for my wife and I to try and now dancing has become our favorite time together during the week. We work with both Ioanna and Anastasiya who are patient teachers eager to share their love of dance. They work with us to achieve the level of skillful dancing that we choose. There is no pressure – just encouragement, helpful insight, humor, and the right amount of challenge. FA is our "happy place" and our time there has been very rewarding from start to present. Just be aware, you may begin with a trial for fun and then find yourself wanting more.

I have been dancing at Fred Astaire Upper Montclair for over two years. At first it was once a week, then twice a week and now I am there 4-5 times a week and even dancing in competitions.
The instructors at Fred Astaire are fabulous, I have made so much progress in my dancing over the past 2 years. It is a very friendly crowd and I have enjoyed my experience there very much. They place a premium on having fun!

10/10 would recommend the Upper Montclair studio. The staff is friendly. The instructors are top tier. The environment is very welcoming and safe. Everyone is so supportive and genuinely so kind. They made going out of my comfort zone such a pleasant experience. I would have never thought I'd feel comfortable dancing in front of people, let alone do my own spot line / show case (basically an event where you dance with a partner in front of a live audience). I'm always walking away feeling more confident and energized. I love you all at F.A.D.S. Upper Montclair. Thanks for all that you do 😁

My friends and I had practiced here for a groomsmen dance for my wedding. Kait was an amazing teacher and had the choreography set up before we even showed up for our first lesson. This was such a memorable experience and I can’t thank Kait enough! Highly recommend going here if you’re learning to dance!

Went here to practice a dance for an Indian wedding that I will be performing in front of over 250 people. Kaitlin was such an amazing teacher and the choreography is elite. Such an amazing experience and a great workout!

Love this place. I am here over 2 years and have done more than I could have imagined. Over 10 different dances. Performed on video and on stage live. The instructors are amazing and guide you through everything.
Fred Astaire of Upper Montclair is an unparalleled studio! You will not find another studio that not only has extremely competent, patient, talented, well versed instructors who are also caring, warm, and welcoming but have also brought together people of diverse backgrounds and made them all feel like family. They truly care about their students... both professionally in helping them achieve their dance goals and personally in their lives. I had a health issue with a member of my family and was out for several months. Many of the instructors and the owners reached out throughout that time to see how we all were doing. Any other place would be out of sight or of mind. They make all events fun (dance parties, competitions, social studio outings) and welcoming. I wouldn't go anywhere else to learn the art of dance. They are the BEST on every level!
Everyone is really nice. The atmosphere is super fun and conducive for learning. I've been here five years and not thinking about leaving anytime soon! My instructor, Artem, is very passionate about his art and teaches in the most fun way possible and gets you excited about your lessons too. Overall, ten out of ten, would recommend!

I originally signed up for an introductory lesson at Fred Astaire thinking that my husband and I would take a few lessons so we could look mildly coordinated at our wedding. I had no idea we would end up with a beautiful choreographed dance and become part of such a warm and welcoming community! We enjoyed our weekly lessons so much that even though the wedding is over, we plan to continue.
