Erin Malley and Doruk Golcu have danced, taught, and performed Argentine tango together for more than 20 years throughout the US and Europe. With Erin’s extensive movement background – including a BFA in Dance, studies in Modern, Ballet, Jazz, West Coast Swing, Pilates, Laban/Bartenieff Fundamentals, as well as being a professional choreographer and Pilates instructor in NYC and SF; and Doruk’s substantial experience in various martial arts – Fencing, Suio Ryu Iai Kenpo (Japanese weapons style), and Aikido; they bring an impressive and comprehensive understanding of movement and dance to their work as Argentine tango teachers.
At the same time, Erin and Doruk are accomplished visual artists: Doruk is a fantasy illustrator, having worked with clients such as Dragonsteel Books, Monte Cook Games, Paizo, Chaosium; and Erin is an award-winning independent filmmaker. They apply their aesthetic training to the visual design of dance, helping you create a dance that is both kinesthetically and biomechanically sound, as well as beautiful, elegant, and styled to your taste.
E&D apply their vast knowledge of movement and arts to their longtime experience dancing Argentine tango. They adore working with crossover dancers, and movers in any discipline – helping students integrate their existing movement wisdom into their tango. E&D have enjoyed working in a number of different dance environments – from the traditional tango workshop/festival model, to ballroom studios, crossover dance events, Queer tango, mixed ability workshops, and at a TangoLARP (live action role play). Accessibility and inclusivity are incredibly important to them as teachers, and E&D feel strongly that excellence in training and dancing should be available to all.
Personalized study is a special part of Erin and Doruk’s work as teachers. They offer rigorous training opportunities at their home in Michigan to their most dedicated students, which consists of customized intensives where students can stay over. E&D travel nationally and internationally to train students privately. They are routinely sought after by highly experienced dancers and other teachers and coaches. Erin and Doruk can teach in fluent English, Turkish, French and German.
