May Means Mother’s Day and Cinco de Mayo

Celebrate Mother's Day

It’s gonna be May! Which for the Fred Astaire Brandon means a lot of celebration. We’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day!

First of all, we’ll kick off the fun on Fri. May 3 at 8PM with a Latin Party.

Think of it as an early Cinco de Mayo party! We are providing light snacks and drinks. This party is for students and guests to enjoy. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the date of the Mexican army’s victory in 1862 over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). While this is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States it has become a fun celebration, so we plan to do just that!

Known for its sensual hip movements and flirtatious flair, Latin danceCinco de Mayo party continues to grow in popularity all over the world. As a result, it is a fixture of ballroom dancing. Latin dances such as Salsa, Rumba, Mambo, Samba, Merengue, Cha Cha and Bachata will heat up the floor at our Latin Party! You can RSVP to the event on Facebook.

Mother’s Day is Coming!

Speaking of celebrating, we certainly want to celebrate amazing moms this Mother’s Day! Dancing is for everyone, including mothers. Whether you’re a hard working mom (aren’t all moms hard working??), retired mom, stay at home mom, single, married – dancing is for you! Dancing has so many benefits for your mental and emotional health. You can make new friends, relieve stress, burn calories, improve your balance and strength and so much more! Above all, you deserve some time for yourself.

Jessie Howett
Jessie with her family

We talked with dance student Jessie Howett to see why she invests in herself with dance lessons. Jesse is a “dance mom” and a dancing mom. Because she started out watching her daughter take ballroom dance lessons, she decided to try it herself. She says:

I got bored at the Friday night dance parties just watching my daughter dance. I figured I would sign up so I could join in the fun. It’s important to me because it gives me “me time” and puts me way out of my comfort zone. Dancing is great exercise. It does more for me than being on the elliptical or doing walk/run. I use muscles I normally don’t use.

Jessie tries to make time for her lessons even with a busy schedule. She focuses on her daughter’s dancing as well, and is her biggest cheerleader.
