I've been coming to Fred Astaire San Mateo for ballroom private lessons, classes, and rounds for several years, and the quality of instruction is unmatched. The teachers, students, and staff take excellent care of the space, and promote a warm, respectful atmosphere for everyone. I always mention FASM to friends and family looking for ballroom instruction, and everyone who's come in have had lovely experiences. 10/10 highly recommend!
The teachers here are very friendly and fun while also being really great dancers. The studio itself is very open and airy with a fabulous floor and excellent sound system. For me this is the best place for dance classes in the San Mateo area.

We had an amazing experience at Fred Astaire Dance Studio learning our first dance for our wedding! Max was our instructor for all our lessons, and he was incredible from start to finish. He choreographed the entire routine perfectly to match our style and the two songs we chose, making it feel uniquely “us.” He was patient, fun, and great at breaking everything down, helping us learn lots of fancy dips, lifts, and turns that made our dance truly memorable.
The dance ended up being one of the highlights of the wedding night — we got so many wows from our guests! A quick shout-out to Lydia as well for helping demonstrate a few of the couple moves during our lessons. We couldn’t recommend Max and the Fred Astaire team enough if you’re looking to create something special for your big day!

Started at Fred Astaire San Mateo with the free introductory lesson and quickly was hooked and purchased the beginner package of private lessons. The instructors are phenomenal (shout out to Rob for being amazing!) and the sense of community is really special here. Not only do they have private lessons, but they also host social classes, as well as monthly events. The facilities are really nice as well with two large dance floors. Ample parking is a plus. Highly recommend!

We look forward to our weekly dance lessons at Fred Astaire. We appreciate that we can come in and use the space to practice what we have learned. Lydia and Max are wonderful teachers and make the whole experience fun. Rob does a great job and is always upbeat and positive. Vita is very helpful at the front desk. The owners, Tomas and Aira, are welcoming and encouraging, which makes beginners like us feel comfortable.

I have been taking private Latin dance lessons from Razmik at DanceVita for six months. I am a beginner, yet I learned so much and it’s amazing to see how much my dancing has improved thanks to Razmik’s teaching. He’s very patient and encouraging, and even though I am a beginner, I feel welcomed and not intimidated by Latin dance. He can always pinpoint my problems right away, so each lesson is very effective. It’s inspiring to learn from a world class teacher like Razmik. I feel so grateful and lucky that I get to learn from him. He shows me how beautiful and fun Latin dance can be and helps me improve along the way. I really enjoy every lesson and look forward to many more!

My partner and I started going to this studio just after businesses started to open up after the pandemic, and have thoroughly enjoyed our growth as ballroom dancers. The instructors are so highly skilled and supportive that makes me always enjoy the time that we are there for either an individual lesson or a group class. It’s a such a good place if you are just walking in for your very first dance lesson, or have been dancing for many years already, because you can see even the highest level dancers and instructors are so humble and inspiring 🙂

We love Fred Astaire San Mateo! We booked an 8 class private lesson package right away after our intro lesson with Zorik. He had made us feel so comfortable and at home in the studio even for beginners. We also love that the studio has 2 large rooms so they can accommodate both private and group lessons. We trust the staff’s expertise and Zorik has been a very thoughtful and encouraging teacher. We plan to book more lessons, as we are having the best time dancing here and learning choreography for our wedding this May.
My fiancee and I came to Fred Astaire San Mateo for our wedding first dance choreography, and we had a blast! Lydia was our instructor/choreographer, and she was attentive, creative, and patient with us. We had no dance experience, but she made the process fun and understandable! Honestly we were anxious about the first dance before we started lessons, but then it became the thing we looked forward to most in the month leading up to the wedding! The rest of the staff and instructors were also helpful and wonderful! Highly recommend.
Lidia was amazing, she made a professional dancer from me and my fiancé for our wedding and we didn’t know any moves before walking into the studio. We can’t recommend her enough.
