Why Practice Parties Are the Secret to Becoming a Better Dancer?

“I’m not ready for a dance party yet. I need to learn how to dance first!”

We hear this all the time at Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Bonita Springs. And our response is always the same:

“That’s exactly why you should come!”

You see, our Practice Parties aren’t just about showing off what you’ve learned. They’re about learning how to actually use what you’ve learned — while having a wonderful time!

Learning to Dance Is More Than Learning Steps

Imagine taking tennis lessons, practicing your serve, perfecting your swing, but never actually playing a game.

Would you really become a good tennis player?

Dancing works much the same way!

At Fred Astaire Dance Studios, we use a unique Three-Way Teaching System that combines Private Lessons, Group Classes, and Practice Parties.

  • Private Lessons: Learn new steps, develop technique, and receive personalized instruction.
  • Group Classes: Reinforce what you’ve learned in your Private Lessons while improving your balance, timing, musicality, and coordination in a fun, supportive group environment.
  • Practice Parties: Put everything together! Dance to music, navigate a busy floor, and discover how much fun social dancing can be.

Each part complements the others, helping you develop into a confident, comfortable dancer.

What Exactly Is a Practice Party?

Think of it as a real social dance party — but with a safety net!

There’s music, dancing, laughter, and plenty of opportunities to meet new people.

The difference? Our professional instructors are right there with you!

They dance with students, offer guidance when needed, and make sure everyone feels welcome and included.

You’ll learn something called floorcraft — the ability to navigate around other couples while maintaining your rhythm, your steps, and your connection with your partner.

It’s one thing to dance beautifully when you have the entire floor to yourself. It’s quite another to dance comfortably when the floor is full of people!

And that’s exactly what we help you learn.

Beginners Are Welcome — Really!

One of the biggest misconceptions about Practice Parties is that you need to be an experienced dancer to participate.

Not at all!

After just a few lessons, once you’ve learned some basic steps, we encourage you to join us.

You don’t need an impressive collection of dance moves. You don’t need perfect technique. And you certainly don’t need to worry about making mistakes!

Our instructors are there to help, and our more experienced students love welcoming newcomers.

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is progress, confidence, and enjoyment.

Come for the Dancing. Stay for the Friendships!

Something wonderful happens when people start dancing together.

Strangers become familiar faces. Familiar faces become friends. And before you know it, your weekly dance lesson has become part of a whole new social life!

Our Practice Parties are as much about connection, laughter, and community as they are about improving your dancing.

And sometimes, we even throw in a little line dancing to keep everyone moving!

The Best Part? It’s All Part of the Experience!

At Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Bonita Springs, we believe that learning to dance goes far beyond Private Lessons.

That’s why our dance programs combine personalized instruction with opportunities to practice, socialize, and develop confidence on the dance floor.
