Sophia began her dance journey at just 2 years old in Puerto Rico with Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Acrobatics and Salsa. She continued her dance journey in Florida, graduating from the Osceola County School for the Arts as a dance major. Over this time, Sophia trained with world class teachers in Ballet, Jazz and Modern dance. She also participated in multiple state and national competitions and assessments, danced professionally for productions, and choreographed some of her own work.
Sophia developed a love for ballroom dance at the age of 13 while still attending OCSA and began her competitive career then. She went on to win several national and international competitions in the American Rhythm division. Her proudest competitive achievements were becoming Youth American Rhythm Vice Champion and World Dancesport Series finalist.
Post competitive career, Sophia has remained training and has taught at multiple dance studios as a Latin dance instructor and Jazz/ Ballet teacher for students age 4-17. Sophia is grateful for her teachers throughout her dance career and can’t wait to transmit her love of dance to all the students at Fred Astaire Dance Studio Dr. Phillips!
