Alex Kozhukhar – Studio Director

Alex, born and raised in Ukraine, started dancing at the age of 8 when one of his neighbors made him try it. After giving it some time and with exceptional guidance from his instructor, he came to appreciate ballroom dancing and decided that he wanted to make a career out of it.

Being from a small town, he spent many years traveling around to numerous cities in order to try to find career development and opportunities for him to pursue his dancing. Eventually he moved to study at the Kirovograd State Pedagogical University, where he graduated with a degree in Choreography as well as an Instructor of the English Language, Ethics, and Aesthetics.

After graduating from university, he made the decision to move to the United States to take advantage of opportunities to pursue his dancing and teaching career even further than before.

Alex has been teaching dancing since 2004 in many cities around the world. His amateur couples have been within the top ranking positions of the juvenile, junior, and youth divisions in Ukraine.

Since he has been teaching within Fred Astaire, Alex has won many Top Teacher awards for his Pro-Am competitive and in studio accomplishments. These include his work with advanced competitive students as well as students who are brand new to dancing.

His students have also experienced many accomplishments, including United States finalists, Fred Astaire Regional and National Yearly Top Student Champions, and independent event finalists and medalists in highly competitive categories.

As a professional competitor, Alex has many accomplishments starting from a very young age. He was Amateur Champion and Finalist in many notable competitions in Europe and Ukraine. As a professional, he has continued the same success in countries all over the world.

He has been dancing professionally in the International Latin division with Rachel since 2019. In just a few short years, even amidst a global pandemic, they have already accomplished quite a bit in a short time. They are most proud of their finalist placements in all Rising Star Latin events at major U.S. competitions, including USDC Open to the World, Ohio Star Ball, New York Dance Festival, Emerald Ball, and more. They also travel internationally to all of the major Latin competitions where they have become Rising Star semifinalists, including at the most prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival and International Championships held in the United Kingdom as well as at World Masters held in Innsbruck, Austria.

His areas of specialty include International Latin, International Standard, American Rhythm, and American Smooth, Beginner Students, and Wedding Choreography.

Alex is eager and excited to be opening up his first Fred Astaire school in the New Berlin area. He is looking forward to sharing his love of dancing with you!
