WEST HARTFORD — It’s widely known that keeping the body and mind active can make aging a happier and healthier time. While there are many activities to exercise each separately, few benefit both simultaneously.
A graceful group of local residents have identified one such activity, and they’re hoping other seniors will join them on the dance floor. A few dozen people ages 70 and older meet at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio on the West Hartford/Newington town line several times a week. At least four among the group happen to be over the age of 80, but that doesn’t stop them from strapping up their sparkly heels.

For Some Couples, Dancing Keeps Hearts Beating Emotionally and Physically
WEST HARTFORD — February is Heart Health Month. It also holds that special holiday: Valentine’s Day. Fox CT had a chance to visit the Fred Astaire Dancing Studio in West Hartford and we found that for some couples nothing quite keeps their heart beating emotionally and physically like ballroom dancing. 88-Year-Old Bringing Awareness to Dementia Through Dance

WEST HARTFORD–This month the dancers at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in West Hartford are wearing purple in honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and on Tuesday some of the dancers performed a free show at the Chatfield Living Center, including one incredible grandmother. “At this age you’ve got to keep your body moving,” said Mary.
