Cheryl Jones … She does it ALL–Owner, Choreographer, and Professional Instructor

When I first walked into Fred Astaire Dance Studios, I was a dance student.  It was the beginning of a wonderful journey of ballroom dancing. It didn’t take long to realize all the amazing benefits ballroom dancing was bringing to my life as well as to all those around me–a great workout, improved physical and mental health, increased confidence, a fabulous creative outlet, decreased stress, and increased social fun and friendships.  Ballroom dancing soon became a life goal.

After almost living at the dance studio as a student, I was drafted into teaching ballroom dancing.  I quickly became the “go-to” instructor at the Anchorage Fred Astaire Studio, teaching, choreographing, performing, and competing.  My students continuously placed in the top two at national Fred Astaire dance championships. Life was exciting as a Fred Astaire Instructor.

Then, because of fortuitous circumstances, I and another instructor assumed ownership of the Anchorage Fred Astaire Dance Studio.  My eyes were opened to the ins and outs of running a studio so that everyone reaches their goals.

What thrills me the most about being a part of the Anchorage Fred Astaire Studio are our students.  It’s such a personal joy to excitedly greet those students when they first walk through our doors (some timid and some excited) and then escort them to the ballroom where they will begin their own dance journey. Some of our dance students have been with us for over 10 years now!

I’ve watched students from their first lesson, nervous and too shy to look at their instructor, grow to where they are participating in studio and national events.  The progress and growth that our students make never ceases to amaze me.  It is an honor and a blessing to keep sharing the many gifts of dance with them and with every person who walks into our studio.

I love my time with the Anchorage Fred Astaire Studio and am super excited for the studio to reach its 50th Anniversary here in Anchorage–only three more years!  Come join us. It is never too late to start to dance.  The only time you have is now.  All it takes is that one step into the studio to change your life.  Don’t wait for an opportunity, create it!

I look forward to welcoming you into our studio.

It’s our first step onto the dance floor!
