Although the exact origins of the dance (and the world) are lost to legend, Tango originated in Argentina in the late 1800s

Classic Bolero, introduced in Spain in 1780, is truly the “dance of love”, and is performed to music featuring a constant beat of drums.

How do I get started?

At Fred Astaire Dance Studios, all new dance Students can take advantage of our special money-saving Introductory Offer! Simply complete and submit the Intro Offer form on this website to get yours, and we’ll contact you right away to learn about your dance goals and help you set up your first Lesson. Once you discover how much fun ballroom dancing can be, we know you’ll be back for more!

How often should I take lessons?

We highly recommend that you schedule your Lessons close together, especially in the beginning. The less time between Lessons means the less you will forget, the less you will need to review, and the more quickly you will reach a confident level in your dancing. We also recommend private Lessons in conjunction with group classes and practice sessions, as it’s the most effective and efficient way for you to learn and stay motivated.

Is it difficult to learn to dance?

No, it’s not! Our Dance Instructors are all highly-qualified and welcoming professionals, who participate in ongoing dance training throughout their careers. In addition, our progressive system of instruction and unique trophy system make it easy for you to learn. It will take a bit of time to master the various dances and a repertoire of steps, but a steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results in less time than you’d think. We highly encourage you to keep your Lessons scheduled close together. You will progress more quickly, and it will make your experience more valuable to you. We promise: the learning is fun – and you will be on your way to confident social dancing after your very first dance Lesson!

Bogged down by work? Feel like you're constantly Ubering the kids around town? We definitely did. And, while dinners out are nice, we wanted to actually DO something together, just us. Enter Fred Astaire Dance Studios. After one group lesson with some friends, we signed up for a package and it became our Friday night ritual. We tried all kinds of dances from the hustle to the salsa. Is our footwork perfect? Absolutely not, but we did learn some killer moves. Did we laugh and have the best time and come home smiling? Yes we did! Thank you Marko and Amy for the best date nights ever!

I gifted my wife and myself a trial lesson last Christmas, we've been hooked ever since. Amy and Marco are wonderfully patient and capable teachers, each lesson we learn a lot, laugh a lot, and become more proficient dancers. It's been good for the body and the brain and as an added bonus provides the opportunity for a week night date night in town.

Marko was the most incredible instructor from our first trial wedding dance class and then 10 classes later with a perfectly choreographed first dance for our wedding ❤️ I cannot say enough kind things about his expertise, professionalism, and ability to guide us through steps but also make sure we like it too! We can't wait to go back and try new types of dances and classes with him and Amy!! If you need a first dance instructor, you have found the right place!!

My wife and I decided to start learning to dance for fun. Amy and Marco run the New Canaan studio and are both very warm and friendly. They are excellent dancers themselves and make it easy to learn and improve. Highly recommended if you’re looking to get out and do something fun with others.
