You’re Invited: Teach-a-Thon & Food Drive to Help Kenosha County

You know we love dance. You know we love this community.

So we’re putting the power of dance to work in order to help feed the hungry.

On Saturday, July 25, dancers from our studio will dance until they drop as we seek donations to help hungry families in need.

Feeding America projects a food insecurity rate of 14.8% in Kenosha County this year, meaning more than 1 in 7 Kenosha County residents don’t have enough food on a daily basis. We’d like to help.

Your Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Pleasant Prairie (9000 76th St., Suite B, Pleasant Prairie) will host a ballroom dancing teach-a-thon on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., to benefit the Salvation Army of Kenosha. Professionals will offer free introductory lessons (for new students) in exchange for food items, personal care products or cash donations.

The teach-a-thon is open to the public. Anyone who contributes items or money will receive a free introductory dance lesson at the studio (new students only). Lessons do not need to be taken the day of the teach-a-thon. Donors can choose between an online ballroom dance lesson or in-person class at the dance studio. Food drop-offs can be made between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Salvation Army suggests the following items for donation:

  • Peanut butter, creamy
  • Jelly
  • Mac and cheese
  • Ramen Noodles (beef or chicken)
  • Tuna
  • Pancake mix
  • Syrup
  • Bar soap
  • Shampoo, full size
  • Conditioner, full size
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Laundry detergent
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes

“Most of us at Fred Astaire Dance Studios are blessed to still be able to put food on the table during this terrible pandemic,” studio owner Anna Krasnoshapka said. “With thousands of people in Kenosha County no longer able to do that for their families, we wanted to do something to help the community that has done so much to support our studio.”

Please help us help needy families in our area while picking up some great dance tips from our professional instructors.
