Frequently Asked Questions About Fred Astaire Dance Instructor Positions

How long does it take to become a Fred Astaire Certified Dance Instructor?
It depends on your level of dance experience, and how long it takes you to complete the rigorous work required to become certified in the Fred Astaire Curriculum (our proprietary teaching method that not only teaches the mechanics of partner dancing, but also presents the building blocks of how people absorb and retain information). Our training program ensures a consistent, high-level of dance instruction, because it teaches our instructors how to teach in a way that people naturally learn! Our dance curriculum is also continuously reviewed by world-famous former dance champions and registered judges on the Fred Astaire National Dance Board, to ensure only the finest and most up-to-date curriculum for you, and for our students.
How much previous dance experience do I need?
Fred Astaire Dance Studio Instructors hail from all over the country, and all over the world! Many have Fine Arts degrees and are actively-competing, award-winning professional dancers. Most Instructors have prior dance experience from a class or professional setting. Because of our thorough and comprehensive instructor training and certification program, prior teaching experience is recommended but is not necessarily required.
Where are the current Dance Instructor openings?
There are Fred Astaire Dance Studios located throughout the United States, and we’re always looking for qualified, outgoing and enthusiastic individuals to add to our winning team of Dance Instructors. Simply submit the request form at the bottom of this page to get started, and your information will be immediately directed to Fred Astaire studio owners in the geographic area(s) you specify.
Will this position help me advance my dance skills?
Absolutely! Our Instructor Certification and training programs will help you dance (and teach) at your optimal level. We also host a series of spectacular Regional & National Pro-Am and Professional Dance Competitions (with over $580,000 in annual Pro and Pro-Am prize money awarded!), and provide access to our top-level dance coaches to help further your dancing skills.
What is the career advancement potential at a Fred Astaire Dance Studio?
Nationwide, our network of Fred Astaire Dance Studios offer the possibility of unlimited career growth potential! Currently, the majority of Fred Astaire studio owners began as dance instructors. The right person with the necessary skills and abilities may have the opportunity to progress to become a studio manager, supervisor – and could even open their own Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studio in as little as 5 years of starting with the company. Our Conceptual Method of Teaching program and continuous management training opportunities make that possible, helping to ensure that our instructors have all the skills required to be excellent teachers now, and to potentially open their own Fred Astaire Dance Studio in the future.
What are the working hours at Fred Astaire Dance Studios?
Most Fred Astaire Dance Studios operate anywhere from 11am to 10pm Monday through Friday, to accommodate our students’ busy and varied schedules. Many studios also conduct lessons, practice parties, team matches and / or coaching sessions on Saturdays.
Are Fred Astaire Dance Instructor positions full-time or part-time?
At Fred Astaire Dance Studios, we generally hire our instructors full-time, as there is a lot of on-the-job training involved and we are looking for dance instructors who are interested in a career, not just a job. Many studios offer full time employees paid vacation, health insurance and some may also offer retirement plans. Note that some studios may also have part-time positions available.
What can I wear to teach?
The specific dress code is set by the studio, but in general Fred Astaire Certified Dance Instructors dress professionally for dance lessons, in clothing that is appropriate & comfortable for partner dancing. In most Fred Astaire Dance Studios, this means slacks, dress shirts and ties for the gentlemen; and skirts, dresses, or slacks for the ladies – and of course, approved dance shoes for everyone. For activities, events and matches, the dress code may vary.
