From the Ballroom to the Boardroom

Elevate your Professional Life Through the Art of Ballroom Dance

We all want to reach our fullest potential in our careers. Studying, networking, and working hard are the first steps in achieving this goal. But what if we told you that ballroom dance could contribute to your professional growth? From the ballroom to the boardroom, here are four ways ballroom dance can also benefit you in the workforce.

1

Poise From the Ballroom to the Boardroom

How you carry yourself is important in your job and on the dance floor. Dance builds confidence, grace, and poise. Moreover, these will extend far beyond the dance floor. Keeping up with a regular dance practice will enable you to carry yourself in the workplace in a way that is composed, balanced, and exudes positivity.

Here at our studio, we had a student who was an accomplished designer in her professional life. However, she felt stuck in a rut at work and was hesitant to push herself to the next level. After taking up ballroom dance and entering into her first ballroom dance competition, she gained the confidence she needed to go after the promotion and succeed! She accomplished a dance milestone she had never thought possible and it gave her the confidence she needed to tackle her professional pursuits with the same assuredness.

Posture

  1. Good posture is a signal of confidence and health. Unfortunately, sitting at a desk all day can wreak havoc on our posture. Poor posture can reduce energy, contribute to depression, and cut off blood flow circulation. Improving posture after sitting in the office all day reduces pain, tension, and headaches. Dance can help you achieve good posture because a strong center of gravity is needed. Your posture and balance will improve more and more after each lesson.
3

Partnership From the Ballroom to the Boardroom

  1. The very nature of ballroom dance inspires teamwork and learning to see from others’ perspectives. Leaders must communicate with followers, and followers must be in tune with leaders to pick up subtle cues for the next move. The more you partner dance, the more in sync you will be in tune with those around you on and off the dance floor.
4

Productivity

Dance enhances productivity in a myriad of ways! Learning new choreography creates new neural pathways. Creating these new pathways enables your brain to have an easier time accessing stored information in the studio and the office. Dancing also releases endorphins and feel-good neurotransmitters such as dopamine, which ward off depression and keep your mind on track and thinking clearly. Furthermore, dance has even been shown to help prevent dementia! Coordinating mind and body in new ways inspire you to think in new ways, increasing productivity.
