Studio Assistant
John Perna started dancing in his early 40s when he realized he needed a diversion from his new job as executive director of a low–income housing non-profit in a mid-sized Michigan city. He quickly realized he had missed out on a lot of fun in his first forty years. He started teaching ballroom dance at a local community center in 2009 and has been teaching almost weekly ever since. He is certified by the U.S. Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance in Standard, American Smooth, and American Rhythm at the Associate (Bronze) level. He loves ballroom dance and loves to share his enthusiasm for it. His motto: “The world would be a better place if more people danced.” Though trained as a civil engineer, when he’s not dancing he’s probably at his church, where he serves as music director.
