Feel the Rhythm: The Samba Experience

Samba is one of the most joyful dances in the ballroom, and also one of the hardest to fake. It has its own heartbeat: a bounce, a pulse, and a playful energy that set it apart from every other dance on the floor. The DanceFlix November Series is the final DanceFlix workshop of 2026, and it’s built around one idea: it’s not just about knowing the steps, it’s about bringing Samba to life.

Workshop Details

Dates: Tuesdays, November 3, 10, 17 and 24
Time: 7:15 – 8:00 PM
Location: Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Cypress
Class Size: Limited to 15 participants

Workshop Focus

Each week builds on the last, starting from the ground up. You’ll begin with the heartbeat of Samba: its distinctive rhythm, its bounce action, its weight transfers and the natural body movement that gives the dance its authentic feel. From there, you’ll explore the hip action, body coordination and isolations that give Samba its personality, so your movement looks relaxed and rhythmic instead of forced.

In the second half of the series, you’ll take Samba across the floor. You’ll work on traveling actions, directional changes and smooth transitions, and learn how to keep your rhythm and bounce while you move. The final week brings it all together through musicality, expression, styling and personality, so your Samba doesn’t just look good but feels alive.

Each session ends with a weekly challenge: Find the rhythm, Show your Samba style, Move with energy, and Feel the character. Each one turns that week’s focus into something you can take straight onto the dance floor.

What You'll Discover

The Heartbeat of Samba: Samba’s distinctive rhythm, bounce action, weight transfers and natural body movement.
Let Your Body Dance: Hip action, body coordination and isolations for relaxed, rhythmic movement with real personality.
Rhythm in Motion: Traveling actions, directional changes, dynamic movement and seamless transitions, while keeping your rhythm and bounce.
Bring the Samba to Life: Musicality, expression, styling and confidence, all combined into Samba that feels as good as it looks.

*Space is limited to 15 participants, so reserve your spot early. End the year with rhythm, energy and a little bit of Samba.

Great experience. Ferg is very encouraging and pays attention to how you learn then leans into that so you catch on. A lot of fun with a positive atmosphere.

My husband and I did a private session with Ferg as our instructor and we really enjoyed how comfortable he made us feel. He is personable, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. By the end of our session, we learned the basics in tango, bachata, and the hustle. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!!? 5/5 stars!

Today I discovered that I have the ability to dance and that I have a love for dance. I had my first session with Ferg and under his guidance I learned about myself. I was super nervous trying something new at 43 but I do not regret it and have now found a new home to learn and express myself.
