Salsa Styles

There are many various types of Salsa dancing, each with its own history. Styles are adaptable and open to change. The style is characterized by timing, basic steps, turns, body movement and movements, and attitude.

Although there are numerous variants, here are the three most common Salsa dance types:

Colombian Style Salsa

The footwork in Colombian Salsa is quite different from that of other styles, with rapid fast steps and skipping movements. The footwork in this style is difficult and accurate, making it ideal for winning global championship medals.

Cuban “Casino” Style Salsa

The Cuban Son dance was the origin of the Casino style. It grew in popularity in the late 1950s, owing to the influence of the Cuban Embargo, and is distinct from other Salsa dance styles. The Casino, in contrast to the Cuban Son, is danced on the downbeat break of 1 or 3 rather than on a delay.

Los Angeles Style Salsa

The L.A. style of salsa is simple to learn. It is influenced by the Mambo, Swing, Argentine Tango, and Latin Ballroom dancing styles. The L.A. Salsa has a wide range of characteristics, including sensuality, flamboyance, athleticism, and musicality. Today’s salsa performances, especially the L.A. style, feature a lot of lifts and stunts.
