Born in Moscow, Russia, Anzhela “Angela” Kuryshova began dancing at the age of seven, and quickly discovered that dance would become her life’s calling. Introduced to the art form by her mother, she spent her early years training and competing alongside her brother, achieving significant success and winning numerous competitions. Those formative experiences shaped not only her competitive spirit, but also a lifelong passion for dance as both an art and a profession.
Over the years, she built an accomplished career in Moscow as a competitor, instructor, and studio owner. She founded her own dance studio, creating a space where students of all ages—from children as young as three, to adults and seniors too—could experience the beauty, discipline, and joy of dance. Angela found particular fulfillment in helping students of all ages grow in confidence, discover their artistry, and experience the happiness that comes from dancing. Her dedication to teaching remains one of the most meaningful parts of her professional journey.
Following her graduation from a prestigious academic institution, she moved to Europe to continue pursuing her competitive career at the highest level. There, together with her Hungarian dance partner, she achieved major international success, earning a vast number of Champion titles. Upon returning to Russia, she continued her professional career becoming Vice-Champion of Russia and placing third at the European Cup Championship.
In 2019, dance brought her the most important partnership of all—her husband, dance and life partner Viacheslav “Slavik” Samokhin. Together, they built a successful international career, competing across the world. In 2026, they made a life-changing decision: moving to Huntington Beach, CA, here in the USA, and working for Fred Astaire Dance Studios!
Today, Angela and Slavik are proud to continue their professional journey with Fred Astaire Dance Studios, where they are honored to share their experience, artistry, and passion with students from all walks of life. Deeply aligned with the studio’s mission and values, they are committed to helping every student discover not only the beauty of dance, but also the confidence, connection, and joy that come with it.
