Every instructor at our dance studio in Paradise Valley is trained and certified through the Fred Astaire Dance Studios’ proprietary teaching system. A structured, progressive curriculum developed over decades and refined by our International Dance Council, which includes professional champions and master educators.
The system is built around three learning formats:
Personalized, one-on-one lessons tailored to your goals, experience level, and learning pace. If you attend without a partner, your instructor will be your partner during lessons. Because every lesson is customized to your needs, private lessons are the fastest way to improve.
Introduce you to new styles, patterns, and techniques in a fun, social environment. You’ll learn alongside other students and practice with different partners to develop the skills needed to become a versatile dancer. They are a great addition to private lessons.
Weekly social events where you can relax, have fun, and use the skills you’ve been learning. You’ll practice with instructors and other students, gain confidence, and enjoy the social side of dancing in a friendly, low-pressure environment.
Fred Astaire Dance Studios was founded in 1947 and has grown into one of the largest and most recognized dance studio networks in the world. With locations across the United States and internationally, the brand carries a teaching legacy for more than 75 years.
The studio system was built on the belief that anyone can learn to dance regardless of age, background, or natural ability. That philosophy hasn’t changed. That philosophy hasn’t changed, and it remains at the heart of every lesson we teach at Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Paradise Valley.
Comfort is the most important thing. Most students wear business casual or comfortable everyday clothes that allow them to move freely.
For footwear, choose shoes that stay securely on your feet and allow you to move comfortably.
Avoid sneakers with heavy tread or rubber soles, as they can stick to the floor and make turning more difficult.
If you have any questions about what to wear, we’ll be happy to help during your initial call or after you submit the contact form.
Our introductory lesson gives you the chance to experience what learning to dance is like. You’ll spend a few minutes talking with your instructor about your goals, and then you’ll head straight to the dance floor to learn some basic steps.
Along the way, you’ll get a feel for the studio, the teaching style, and how the lessons work. No experience is necessary.
Just come ready to have fun and try something new!
Not at all. Many of our students start their dance journey on their own.
If you come without a partner, your instructor will dance with you during your private lessons. You’ll also have the opportunity to dance with other students during group classes and practice parties, helping you build confidence and enjoy the social side of dancing.
You don’t need years of experience to look comfortable and confident dancing.
Many students are able to lead or follow simple patterns after just a few lessons. Within a few months of consistent practice, they often feel comfortable dancing at weddings, social events, and studio parties.
Dancing is a skill, and with regular practice, you can improve far faster than you expect.

Dancing asks you to coordinate your body, connect with a partner, and move in front of others. That is uncomfortable at first. But every time you push through it, you come out the other side a little more sure of yourself. On the floor and off it.
An hour of dancing burns as many calories as cycling or swimming, but it never feels like a workout. It feels like fun. Your body gets stronger, more flexible, and more coordinated without you even noticing.
The studio brings people together through shared experiences, partner work, and social events. Many students come for the lessons, but stay because of the friendships and sense of community they build here.
Learning new steps and routines keeps your brain active and engaged. Studies show that regular dancing improves memory, focus, and mental sharpness, making it one of the best things you can do for your mind at any age.
